This story didn’t happen in the events that I document above the story actually developed in between, when I finally gave up on doing math the way schools told me to and took into account the reality of a gifted child’s developing brain. What I gave up was the misinformed idea that learning can be imposed by external pressure, and what I gained was access to the joy that accompanies child-led discovery. https://www.sengifted.org//stress-learning-and-the-gifted- The issues addressed are consistent with the mission and vision of GCABC and intended to inform our audience.

"But very quickly, the way I viewed myself and my place in the world changed. I was in this special class. I was a smart kid, meant to do smart-kid things. I knew I had been tested, and I knew that the results were a big deal because my mom wouldn’t tell me my score. The most I managed to get out of her was that my IQ was higher than my dad’s, a piece of trivia I clung to like a tiny life preserver: my dad could do anything, and I was smarter than he was." https://www.quietrev.com/on-what-to-be/ The issues addressed are consistent with the mission and vision of GCABC and intended to inform our audience.

"In general, Twice Exceptional or 2E is a term representing children who are gifted and also have an additional special need. This means these children are quite complex, being both gifted and talented and also having other special needs such as a Learning Disability or Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). "It might seem natural to praise them, put them on a pedestal and give them more work to do. But in fact, treating them out of the ordinary or any different from other students can bring about a number of problems, which in turn make the entire learning experience far less enjoyable and rewarding. Instead, it is best to take other steps in best accommodating their presence in the classroom." https://classful.com/accommodations-for-gifted-students/ The issues addressed are consistent with the mission and vision of GCABC and intended to inform our audience.

This article by Sandra L. Berger discusses how gifted students "need an appropriately differentiated curriculum designed to address their individual characteristics, needs, abilities, and interests. It is difficult to generalize about students who are gifted because their characteristics and needs are so personal and unique. However, as a group they comprehend complex ideas quickly, learn more rapidly and in greater depth than their age peers, and may exhibit interests that differ from those of their peers. They need time for in-depth exploration, they manipulate ideas and draw generalizations about seemingly unconnected concepts, and they ask provocative questions." https://www.davidsongifted.org/search-database/entry/a10342 The issues addressed are consistent with the mission and vision of GCABC and intended to inform our audience.

"Some gifted kids love school and are great at keeping themselves motivated. Some gifted kids like to learn what they are interested in and nothing else. Some gifted kids struggle to find internal motivation and don’t see the point in busy work. "One thing is for sure, all kids (gifted, struggling, or in-between) need structure and support during this unique time in our nation’s education history. Enrichment products listed at the end." https://inspireteachgrow.com/distance...-learning-support-fo/ The issues addressed are consistent with the mission and vision of GCABC and intended to inform our audience.

As we enter a new school year, physical schools are challenged to adapt quickly and function in ways they have not before. Parents, too, are supporting their children in new ways. Online learning requires different support than classroom learning. Afterschooling may be different this year. Some new homelearners are embarking on an adventure held in the back of the mind for years, and propelled into reality by an uncertain school year ahead. Others feel pushed into homelear...ning by the current situation. Those who have been homelearning for years also find themselves adapting to communities with restricted access to libraries, museums, and classes. No matter how your gifted children are learning this year, the GCABC is here to help you support their emotional, intellectual, and creative needs in education. Look out for tips and articles about gifted education over the next month.

Possibilities For Learning is a tool developed by local expert in giftedness, Dr. Lannie Kanevsky. On this page, she discusses differentiating learning for process. Since gifted children think differently, they often need to approach learning in a different way than typical students. https://possibilitiesforlearning.com//process-differenti/ The issues addressed are consistent with the mission and vision of GCABC and intended to inform our audience.

"It’s a scientific fact that 20% of the population is born with a gene that allows them to process sensory data much more deeply and thoroughly than other people do. We also know that a common thread that runs among gifted people is their ability to understand the world more deeply and thoroughly than others, a trait that is simply sensitivity by another name." https://educationaladvancement.org/blog-many-gifted-child/ The issues addressed are consistent with the mission and vision of GCABC and intended to inform our audience.

"Gifted individuals with a high emotional intelligence are told they are too sensitive that they just need to get over it, and that they take too much to heart. In reality, highly gifted emotional individuals can’t get over it or stop being too sensitive in a quick manner, their brain is wired differently.
