Gifts of Grace Sponsors Successful Sandwich Session. Thanks for your Support....Seriously. This week, thanks to your donations which included 30 cans of chicken, we made 140 sandwiches, along with another 70 sandwiches with 30 cans of tuna. We started off by picking up 24 loaves of bread from Main Street Project Inc. purchasing fresh greens to go into the mixture, and dropping off to 3 of our volunteer sandwich makers on a Tuesday. Next day we picked up the completed sa...ndwiches and delivered to Main Street Project, along with muffins, cookies, and juice. These will be used in their van patrol program, where they drive around the Point Douglas and downtown areas checking on those spending the night outdoors or in makeshift shelters. Last week, when it was extremely cold, the shelter , which normally houses 75 people had 125 spending the night and the only food they had was our sandwiches, so they were literally a life saver. We thank you for all your support. We would like to replicate this and once again ask for donations of the following: Canned tuna, canned chicken Jam, cheese whiz Mayo Single serve juice boxes Single serve cookies, baking , wagon wheels, etc. ( Dads cookies eg. ) Items can be dropped off at any of our drop off locations: In the North Kildonan area: 417 Paufeld Drive In the Elmwood area The Washeteria Laundromat, 556 Keenleyside St. In the Transcona area: Transcona Salon Spa 1783 Plessis Rd, Winnipeg, MB

2020 Annual Report Gifts of Grace Street Mission 2020 Annual Report In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc with the usual ‘normalcy' of our Mission operations; and seriously curtailed our ability to fulfill our mandate of providing Food, Friendship and Compassion to our Street Friends. We were in complete and prompt compliance with any provincial directive from Manitoba’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr.... https://giftsofgracewpgblog.wordpress.com/2021/01/20/647/

Gifts of Grace Street Mission has had to once again curtail our activities due to Covid restrictions. We are not able to go out and serve our street friends. We have distributed the food we had in storage to various organizations in need, so when we start up again when the smoke ( virus) clears, we will again be like Mother Hubbard... ( bare cupboard). Anyway in the meantime there is something we CAN do. Main Street Project Inc. is planning their biggest ever holiday donatio...n drive. Please help us gather needed items so they can put together over 500 gift packages to ensure that each of our community members has their own gift to open the morning of December 25th. You can drop off donations shown on the picture to: Transcona: Bonnie Scott's house Rob Nykoluk’s house 12 Chaucer Pl ( red bin at front door) Transcona Salon Spa 1783 Plessis Rd Tuesdays 10 am - 12pm (There will be a bin outside) Elmwood: The Washeteria Laundromat, 556 Keenleyside St. North Kildonan: 417 Paufeld Drive (two streets North of Springfield Road) Thanks to all and Merry Christmas

Let’s talk socks! As you may have heard, it’s Socktober for Main Street Project. This is one of their biggest annual donation drives in which they hope to collect at least 20,000 pairs of new or gently used socks. People experiencing homelessness are at risk of developing serious feet health issues including infections, ulcers, ingrown toenails, and nerve damage due to diabetes. Being exposed to the elements can cause frostbite. In severe cases, foot health issues can lead to... serious illness and amputation. Last year’s Socktober collected over 50,000 pairs, which we thought would last quite a while. Due to MSP expanding their services to meet the needs of their community during COVID-19, they have gone through donations much more quickly than anticipated and are critically low on socks right now. They were one of the only homeless serving agencies who EXPANDED services rather than reduced services when COVID-19 first hit Manitoba, and are serving many more people each day. Why are socks so important for them? They provide socks to folks through their emergency shelter Winnipeg’s only 24-7, 365 days a year, low-barrier emergency shelter. Low-barrier means that they are the only 24-7 safe space for a person experiencing homelessness who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This is SO important. The last Winnipeg Street Census in 2018 reported that over 30% of people surveyed self-identified substance use as the reason for their first experience of homelessness and nearly 25% of the individuals surveyed self-identified substance use as the reason for their most recent experience of homelessness (page 27 of report). If it wasn’t for MSP’s low-barrier shelter, these folks might have no place else to go. Their low-barrier facility never closes and they don’t turn people away for substance use. Most of the socks they provide to community members is done through MSP's low-barrier emergency shelter. Main Street Project also has the only mobile outreach on the road 365 days per year. Their mobile outreach team does essential work providing support to unsheltered Winnipeggers this includes providing a pair of clean dry socks to anyone who needs it. Being able to say yes to providing a pair of clean, dry socks is essential to keeping our community members' feet healthy Gifts of Grace are collecting new socks for Main Street Project Inc. Socktober Project. Donations can be dropped off at either of the following locations: The Washeteria Laundromat, 556 Keenleyside St. Or Transcona Salon Spa, 1783 Plessis Rd, Winnipeg, MB Thank you so much.

***Gifts of Grace Street Mission Update*** Just as everyone else in these crazy times, Gifts of Grace Street Mission is having a tough go of how to best navigate in the age of Covid. In early March we totally shut everything down, as did most everyone. Since then we have peeked our heads up and have taken a few tentative steps out in the open, because, let's face it.... there are still hungry people out there. ... The casseroles we had on hand were distributed to a couple of low income housing complexes in our area. We also held a couple of donation drives in the Transcona square, in which we were able to gather a great deal of food and craft supplies for those same housing complexes. In early May some of our members joined a Friday morning sandwich making session group at Main Street Project, supplying bagged lunches for the street people. And since early June, Gifts of Grace, has been making sandwiches, and casseroles for Sunday morning breakfasts outside at Main Street Project. We are hoping to start up again in early September, with a smaller, social distancing, masked band of marauders.... no wait....masked band of casserole makers, and serve on Thursday evenings as well as Sunday mornings like before. We may only be able to serve once or twice per month on Thursdays, and if Covid gets bad, might have to shut it all down again, but we have our tentative plan in place. We will be seeking donations of food supplies from those who want to help feed those in need during these trying times. For now we are in short supply of the following items: Peanut butter, jam, mayo, mustard, cheese whiz, canned meat, juice crystals, juice boxes ( individual boxes preferred),coffee, Kraft dinner. Items can be dropped off at: Washeteria Laundromat, 556 Keenleyside St. Or Transcona Salon Spa, 1783 Plessis Rd, Winnipeg, MB

This is Leroy, a Main Street Project community member, wearing a home-made mask sewn by a Main Street Project supporter. When COVID-19 first arrived in Winnipeg..., we had an army of incredible supporters from all over Manitoba step up to make fabric masks for us. Our staff and community relied on these donations when we found ourselves facing a global PPE shortage. It was such a relief and comfort to have these available when we needed them. Thank you! We continue to provide these reusable face masks to community members using our services. They are grateful to have access to them, now more than ever, when face-masks are becoming the norm in all public places. We do not currently have any fabric masks left, and hope to mobilize the public again to re-kindle the flurry of mask-making that happened this spring. Can you help? #mspbuildingstability #winnipeg #manitoba

We’re very proud that we were able to continue operating our food bank all throughout the pandemic. For the past several months, we’ve provided hampers through ...the front door to ensure safety for all. This has worked well in terms of keeping people safe, while providing consistent access to food. Today we’re VERY excited as it’s our first Food Bank day where we’re back to our regular shopping experience model. For those who may not know, our typical pre-pandemic food bank experience is that we invite guests in to shop for grocery items, providing choice and dignified access to food. We love this model and the opportunity to interact with our community members in this way. And they love it too! Thursday mornings around here are so special and we are very excited to be back to this Our team is all ready to go with masks, sanitizer and big smiles, even if you can’t see them. We are so looking forward to seeing everyone again! #mspbuildingstability #winnipeg #manitoba #covid19 #covid19chc
