-Serve Up Fire Safety In The Kitchen- Here’s a short video to watch with your kids about how to be safe around cooking and the dangers in the kitchen.
-Serve Up Fire Safety In The Kitchen- Tip of the day: Never use water on a grease fire! Water will cause the fire to flare and spread. Instead put a tight fitting lid over top of the pot/pan or slide a cookie sheet over it to smother the fire and turn off the element. ... If you have an overhead fan on, turn it off to keep the flames from spreading. Don’t try to move the pot or pan from from the stove if there are flames, as this could cause the fire to spread or drop grease and burn you. Don’t pour burning oil down the sink. See more
This week, Oct 4 to Oct 10th is Fire Prevention Week. This weeks campaign is Serve Up Fire Safety In The Kitchen! to help educate everyone about the simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves, and those around them, safe in the kitchen. Did you know cooking is the #1 cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of fires in the kitchen.
As most would have expected, we have decided to cancel our annual Christmas Gala this year. However, stay tuned for 50/50 tickets which will also include a booze draw!
Our department is looking for any old unwanted vehicles that someone may be willing to donate for vehicle extrication practice. If you have one that’s just taking up space and is no longer useful to you, please send us a message or contact Jim 204-572-1939, Katelynn 204-648-4899, or Chad 204-648-4322. Thank you!
There has been an increase in scam calls regarding the STARS lotteries. STARS will NEVER ask for money to claim a prize. If you receive such a call, it is a scam. Please report it with the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre or your local police detachment. #WeAreAllSTARS
We are currently selling 2021 STARS calendars for $30, with all proceeds going towards STARS. Since 1985, STARS air ambulance has flown more than 40,000 missions across Western Canada. The cost of an average flight is $5400 and the cost to operate each of STARS' six bases is $10 million annually. As a non-profit organization, STARS relies on community support to pay for fuel for its helicopters, the medicine and equipment used to treat patients and the skilled staff who put... it all to use on each mission. Each month, the calendar features moving patient stories of rescue and recovery, as well as images of the crew and the allies who make STARS possible. Contact any fire department member to get your calendar today.
A few months ago our members attended a grain bin rescue seminar on what to do if someone becomes trapped inside of a bin with grain. Tonight we practiced cutting into galvanized bin sheets. We’re thankful we’ve never had to do this rescue yet, but will be prepared if we do. Thank you to Vern for providing us with these sheets to practice with.
