I don’t know what to do or say right now but I can’t sit comfortably in my whiteness by doing nothing, saying nothing. One of the many things I can do is use my skills as a professional in the health and wellness space to raise money for Black folks and anti-racist movements. Next Sunday June 7th at 10am I will be hosting a 30min Full Body Stretch and Mobility Class via Zoom. To join me, you must send proof of your personal donation to an anti-racist fund, organization, movem...ent or a Black activist. The dollar amount can be whatever you can afford. POC can join for free. I’ll go first. Please see in the next slides that I have started us off by donating $50USD to @rachel.cargle and $50USD to the @mnfreedomfund A couple important things: 1 || Spend time researching the organizations or activists that you would like to support. Many of you probably already know who you’d like to donate to, but if you don’t this is a really good time to do some research and some listening. Many will have social media platforms with direct links to PayPal accounts. Please do not add to their labour by DMing them to ask how you can donateyou can figure that out on your own. 2 || Do not comment with praise for this effort or tell me I’m doing something good. I will delete any comments like that. As a white person, the last thing I need is a pat on the back while Black people are being murdered for nothing. If you do want to show your support, do it with your dollars. @ Toronto, Ontario
On Changing Your Mind: . I’m embarrassed to admit that when the pandemic first started, I did not understand why anyone would wear a fabric mask to go out in public. . I thought this because: ... 1 // If you were wearing a mask because *you* were sick then you should be at home isolating, not out and about. . 2 // I thought that fabric masks didn’t work and that N95 masks should be reserved for frontline workers (still do)! . I didn’t know that fabric masks *can* help prevent the spread of the virus from the wearer to the public, and therefore wearing one was something I could do (as a potential asymptomatic carrier) to protect others, especially those who are immune compromised. . Changing your opinion and behaviour when you learn something new is importantdon’t allow yourself to be stuck in your ways.
Saturday thoughts: training is one of the few things in life that gives you back exactly what you put into it. In times like these, isn’t that nice? . . .
