Ardha Kapotasana (Half Pigeon) is a asana I don’t often teach in class but do a lot of in my personal practice. It stretches the lower back, abdomen, and hip flexors. It’s also a great chest opener which can improve breathing and blood flow. Folding forward moves the stretch into the piriformis which also feels amazing. Supine Figure Four is the version I teach in class which offers many of the same hip-opening benefits but can be more accessible and easier on the knees while still feeling delicious! Using yoga tools like straps or blocks in your practice helps to add reach and invite opening in certain asanas; the perfect way to meet your body where it is today. Personally, I couldn't practice without my strap; I love the reach it gives me for Supta Padangustasana. What yoga tools do you like best? (Photo credit Shantina Rae Photography)

We often have furry friends join Zoom class, especially for sessions like Yin or Restorative which contain longer holds and focus on calming the nervous system. This is Jones the Cat - he’s one of our regulars. He’s very good at savasana.
