This is an oldie but a goodie and garnered all kinds of controversy too. The main thing is to just listen to the experiences of women, we have a unique perspective that male photographers may not understand.
I loved doing this project. It's always a work in progress but here's a look at some insights and the portraits that I gathered from Mexico.
I re-published this photo essay with a new title. This is the story of when we visited an Arhuaco community last year near the Sierra Nevada mountains in Colombia. This part of Colombia has a very rich indigenous history and they are still fierce protectors of this land. If you visit, you will see that the land they protect is rich in diversity of plant and animal species making it one of the last true beauties in the world.
Hi friends, I'm republishing some old photography posts and wanted to share them here. Enjoy! https://medium.com//powerful-questions-to-ask-yourself-as-

I was given permission to take photos within an Arhuaco community here in Colombia. We spoke for an hour with the Mamo (spiritual leader) about his community. I learned so much. The Arhuaco people protect the Sierra Nevada region in Colombia. They are the big brothers who protect this sacred heart of the earth. They use coca leaves as medicine and make offerings to the ocean and mountains. They’ve also successfully fought off the government and corporations from building eco-destroying settlements in the Sierra Nevada’s. Today this region is rich in bio-diversity and remains relatively healthy. #arhuaco #colombia #travelphotography #indigenousrights #globalcitizen #colombiabiodiversa #portrait_shot #environmentalportraits
