Challenge accepted. After digging around a bit, I have to say I’m not entirely sure how a selfie challenge works or what the original purpose was. I’ve seen a few articles pertaining to the Istanbul Convention and mirroring the black and white photos of women killed by domestic violence, while others slam the challenge for being self(ie)-indulgent...but I’m game to use my wee voice and the opportunity to support other women as best I can. So yep, this is me...I have first-wor...ld life and business experience and many resulting battle scars. I have been mentored and supported by phenomenal women and something I’ve learned is that being bravely and openly genuine and authentic, scary as that might be, is paramount...both in business and personal life. Are we perfect? Hell no...but we are perfectly imperfect and as such we are all uniquely amazing, talented, messy, and beautiful. Sometimes we lose sight of this...so thank you @wendylynnnicholson for the nomination, support and the reminder...back atcha! You absolutely made my day! The time has come to say goodbye... for now. What an incredible adventure! From the moment @tedjohnstonrlp called about the listing in 2013, to the months of bringing life back into a tired but lovely old house in beautiful downtown Bobcaygeon, to the intense creative unleashing to develop a unique and meaningful shop concept, to the amazing folks who came through the door and shared their visions for their spaces and wishes for the most special of gifts for loved ones, to t...he love and loss of the most adorable, gentle shop dog, Angus, and to the friendships gained with some of the most interesting people I’ve ever met...it has been such a rewarding, moving experience. The name Gilstorf & Gray is an intentional reference to the love and support of the family network - those here now as well as those who have left us. I could not have done this without my very beautiful tribe!! Thanks so much to all the wonderful customers, suppliers, and artisans...I will miss you very much. Though the brick and mortar shop in Bobcaygeon is closing today, I will always strive to make everyday moments special with an appreciation of slow goods, vintage treasures, and time tested, handmade wares...I hope you will as well. Many ideas are flowing for the next iteration of G&G, so this really is just au revoir. Stay tuned to this space for fun things coming down the line. Although the moment is bittersweet, I am excited to have the time to reconnect with family and old friends, to cultivate newfound bonds, and to follow roads I have yet to travel.
