Please take a couple minutes to read about and sign this petition by Black Lives Matter YXE, and if you have experiences on the topic to share, there is also an outlet for you to submit them. No one should have to endure racial slurs, including (especially) youth in what is supposed to be a healthy and safe educational setting!

Today, December 6th, is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day marks the anniversary of the murders of 14 women at Montreal’s École Polytechnique. We honour those lives lost and the ongoing epidemic of gender based violence. This article talks to survivors sharing some important and vulnerable stories. Cw: violence, sexual assault

We love seeing the summaries of folks music activities for the year, especially as a means of promoting local and new artists and bands! However, streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music do not pay fair rates to the musicians that power their services. Normally folks have shows (and the merchandise sold at them) to help support them, with this option basically eliminated, and so many artists continuing to offer their music now through online shows (usually FOR FREE), w...e need to be mindful of how we pay them for their work! One great option is the initiative of the first Friday of the month where 100% of profits go to artists when you purchase their music on Bandcamp! So, we want to encourage folks to look up their favourite musicians and let them know you appreciate them and want them to keep making music by actually buying it! Please link artists in comments (local or otherwise) that you'll be supporting today to help others maybe find their next favourite jam! (Also, if you're interested, we offer our camper music on Bandcamp https://girlsrockcampsaskatoon.bandcamp.com/music). Have a great Friday everyone!! See more

This online event for the Transgender Day of Remembrance is happening shortly, it's important to take time to stop and mourn for the lives lost to violence and trauma. No one deserves to face violence, especially not when they are targeted for simply being who they are. We hope that folks have taken time this week to educate themselves on issues facing transgender people, to celebrate in their achievements and experiences of gender euphoria, and to make honest and concrete plans for working to create a safer and affirming world. We all have a part to play in making a difference!

We hope that everyone makes time today, on #OrangeShirtDay to learn, reflect, and commit to the important calls for Truth and Reconciliation. Systemic racism still pervades our society and the intergenerational trauma of a system designed to culturally (and often physically) eradicate Indigenous people across Turtle Island persists. A horrifying example of this was made public yesterday when we learned that Joyce Echaquan, in hospital seeking healing, was instead met with su...ffering, being verbally abused by health care staff in Quebec. The injustices continue on a daily basis, in all manner of settings and to all manner of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit folks - whether it's live streamed on Facebook or not. We need to do better, all of us, in challenging our implicit biases, in our interactions with others, and with holding systems accountable. Or better yet, coming up with entirely different systems that actually provide dignity, respect, love, and healing to those that engage with them. #JusticeForJoyce #EveryChildMatters *Thank you to OUTSaskatoon for the graphics/information See more

Today is #NationalSuicidePreventionDay and day 41 of ceremonial fasting by Tristen of Walking With Our Angels. We want to thank Tristen and all the folks who are part of WWOA for their time, passion, and dedication to raising awareness around suicide in Saskatchewan (and more generally) and striving to bring about concrete, meaningful change. Thank-you to all the mental health professionals working hard for their clients and to improve the systems that suffer from lack of fun...ding and support, thank-you to any person who has ever gone out of their way to support a family member, friend, or stranger in a time of need, and thank-you to all those folks fighting in their activism to create a better, more just world for us to live in! We might not know you personally but we love you and we are grateful for you. Let's all do our part to keep each other safe <3 See more

It's back to school day in SK! We know this is happening in a variety of ways and is both exciting and possibly stressful for students, parents, teachers, and all the other important members of our learning communities. For those going to school in person, we thought it would be great to share this fun song from Anna Haverstock about wearing your mask! "Make sure to wear your mask at school because being safe is hip and cool. Keep your distance everyday to safely work, dance and play." Check it out!(Really we think this song applies to life more generally beyond just school!) We wish everyone a safe, kind, and positive week!
