oh my GAHD 2000 FOLLOWERS! It feels like I've been on Instagram for decades and this account has evolved from duck face selfies, to badly lit food pictures, to the food I create today! I am slowly but surely finding my niche and I'm loving it! The Instagram community has always accepted me with open and loving arms. You guys have supported me and made me feel loved in everything that I do. . It has been an insane few years, from having cancer to being on MasterChef to Wall ...of Chefs to now being the Bo Deen Queen! Lol! I have all of you to thank for being here for me. I always wanted a safe place where I could share my life and my passion. If you know me, you know that I SUCK at writing so who knew I would have a blog one day too?! . Haha it all seems surreal that I've created so many amazing friendships and worked with unbelievable companies through Instagram. It's Official! Our pick for BEST FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH. It's a hard job but we did it for YOU! We reviewed 2 places that we've heard so much about! @amazingjape and I were on the hunt for the best and these were the 2 we narrowed it down to @popinavancouver and @dlchicken . 1) Popina Crispy Chicken Sandwich $13 (Lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion & honey hot sauce). It was super enormous so I thought it was a breast. But pleasantly surprised to find that it was a chick...en thigh with the SKIN ON! It's not often that you find one with the skin on. Personally, I'm firm believer that all chicken sandwiches should be thighs.The meat was so juicy that it was running down my hand.The brioche bun was soft and buttery with a slight chew. The breading of the chicken was unbelievably crispy, crunchy & seasoned perfectly. The spices weren't overpowering which made the flavour of the chicken the star. There was literally nothing that I didn't like about this one. The crunchy batter, the chew of the bun, the sweetness of the sauce makes it a very well rounded sandwich.I am still dreaming about it. Bravo Popina! 9.7/10 2) Downlow Chicken Original Sando $12.50 +$3 for bacon and cheese. (Nashville spiced chicken breast, DL sauce, sweet & sour slaw, pickles & red onion). Another ENORMOUS sandwich! This time it was a breast but I had high hopes even though its hard to do a juicy one. The breading was very crunchy, seemed like a buttermilk batter. I noticed the coating was more heavily spiced which I didn't love. I was getting a strong hit of cumin and/or cayenne. The bun was a bit too delicate and crumbly for a sandwich of this girth. The cheese and bacon added some extra crunch but I don't think it needed it. The chicken was drizzled with honey which I LOVED - this was a great touch. I was a bit disappointed that the meat was a little bit dry. However for $2 you can sub it for dark meat. Overall it had some good elements but I couldn't get over the meat being dry & the lackluster bun. 6.8/10 . It's the Crispy Chicken Sandwich from @popinavancouver for the T.K.O !!! Simple pasta with wild mushrooms & truffle! OMG I am a truffle fanatic! If only it came in an eau de toilette. I was ecstatic to see that@westcoastwildfoods sold truffles. I also bought a box of wild assorted mushrooms from them. There was no better way to showcase it all than with pasta! Restaurant worthy dish but at home..& I didn't even have to do the dishes, thanks@amazingjape! [TURKEY SATE PHO] - Peanut butter and Turkey?! Thats right! This is the sister to dan dan noodles and I can't get enough! What makes this "sate" is the peanut butter in the broth, makes it spicy, nutty and rich! I'm torn if I like peanut butter more in savoury or sweet dishes. Traditionally it's made with beef broth but I had lots of turkey bones left over from the holidays so I thought I'd try something different. This recipe was adapted from a recipe from the queen herself @nuocmamafoods . She makes authentic Vietnamese dishes that look mouth watering, head over to her page to see some amazing food.
