Glanmore National Historic Site 28.04.2021

Welcome to our first #MuseumMiniatureMonday. My name is Meaghan and I will be your host for this carefully curated tour of some of Glanmore’s most magnificent miniature objects. The first artifact in our series is this change purse (accession number C 392) which measures 2 inches high by 2.5 inches wide. Dating from approximately 1880-1900, this teeny tiny purse could have been worn on a chatelaine which is a belt clip with a series of small tools attached to their own indivi...dual chains. Think of it as a utility belt for the Victorian lady - each item would have had a particular use like small scissors and a thimble for sewing, or in this case, a purse to hold small change. Come back next Monday to see some more of Glanmore’s perfect little treasures! #museumminiatures #discoverbelleville #cityofbelleville #glanmore #museummonday #ilovemuseums See more

The museum is now temporarily closed and will not reopen until the provincial shutdown is over. We wish every one of you a safe and happy holiday season. We look forward to welcoming you back to Glanmore sometime soon.

Thanks to our friends at Mississauga Museums for reminding us about oranges in your christmas stocking. In the 1890s there was a poem about what you would find in your stocking. "Something to play with, Something to read, Something to eat, Something you need."
