Today, we are making a small change in terms of our toy drive & fundraiser for @winhouseshelter Recognizing the challenges this time of year with toy shopping - particularly in light of the recent Alberta restrictions - we are opening up a new donation method at the shop! From now until December 21st, we are also accepting e-transfers to make it as easy as possible to support this amazing organization! For those of you who are still able, we are still taking toy donations by contactless drop-off appointments - and WINHouse has recommended gift cards too (especially for the pre-teens and teenagers who their organization supports)! All E-Transfers can be sent to [email protected] - just send us a message to let us know you’ve made a donation and we can even coordinate with WINHouse to provide you tax paperwork if you like!

Today, meet GHF’s team member: Steph Hi Everyone! I’m Steph and I’ve been with GHF since the very start, when we were all huddled in one exam room with sawdust flying around us doing our staff training days. It’s been so much fun being a part of building GHF into Edmonton's coolest optometry shop! We have the best team and loyal patients who we’ve come to know as friends. Our office truly feels like my home away from home and I get to work with my second family everyda...y. Working at GHF has allowed me to grow so much both professionally and personally - Some of you might recognize me from our IG stories, I manage our social media and marketing online. I’ve also had the pleasure of working with organizations like @winhouseshelter and @caawls to have successful fundraising events! These have been some of my personal favourite moments over the years! Being born and raised in rural Nova Scotia, I was always a bit timid driving near Edmonton’s downtown core - can you believe I almost didn’t apply to GHF because of this?! Me neither, because now 124th Street is my favourite hub in the city. It’s really opened my eyes as to how local small business’ band together and create support around each other and the community. Fun fact: I am the team member with the lightest prescription, and yet ever since I can remember I wanted glasses. There is a picture of me still around wearing fake glasses from the store Claire's when I was 7. You could say I was destined to be a part of the eye-care world, and have a passion for making patients feel their best in the perfect pair of specs! Swipe to see my frame pick

Did you know GHF carries a great selection of full-coverage safety glasses!? Our safety glasses are all Canadian-made, and are CSA and ANSI-approved to ensure they are compatible with workplace requirements! We are even able to make a pair with your custom prescription in them!! We’re very happy to offer this service to do what we can to help keep our frontline healthcare heroes protected throughout these trying times. We appreciate the sacrifices you make every single day to look after our community, and we hope to be a resource if there's any way we can help as well.

Today we’d like you all to meet Glasses Half’s best friend! Kirby the Dog was born on a farm in the Ozark Mountains, in a small town just outside of Springfield, Missouri. Kirby joined Krista & Michael’s family during Michael’s final placement in optometry school working at a Veteran Affairs Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma and Kirby has been their stalwart companion ever since! Kirby is a whoodle a cross between a soft-coated wheaten terrier and a poodle. Ever si...nce she was a puppy, she’s always been filled with boundless energy, playfulness, intelligence, and love of adventure. Starting in the Ozarks and continuing after moving back to Canada a few short months later, Kirby has always loved hiking and scrambling she always wants to be first up any mountain, and on a walk she’ll often seek out cliffs (for no apparent reason) just to scale it and then hop back down. These skills have also made her avidly fond of sniffing out squirrels or rabbits or even marmots on a mountain hike! In the winter, you’ll often see Kirby cross-country skiing with Michael at Gold Bar Park (he even trained her to run beside him & off the tracks), or at one of the many off-leash parks in #yeg with her doggo pals! At home, Kirby loves watching the world go by through the front window, and she loves cuddles, scratches, and playing with her tennis ball in the backyard. Kirby only comes by Glasses Half Full when we are closed for the occasional staff meeting or for helping Krista & Michael at the office if they need to work late but when she does, you might even see her poke her nose past the plants in the front window to say hi! Important COVID-19 Update from GHF! With new restrictions set in motion this evening, we would like to let you know that we are still running visits by appointment at the office. As we have since we initially reopened, we will continue to schedule all of our appointments to ensure proper social distancing measures (well below even the current restriction capacities). This extra time between appointments also ensures we can sanitize all of our test equipment & surface...s, as well as keep all our eyewear clean for you to try-on! From the whole team, we want to express our sincere gratitude for all of the ongoing support we’ve received during these incredibly difficult times. See more

On this weeks addition of Meet our Team We’d like you all to get to know Frances, the newest member to join GHF!! "When I was about 7yrs old I fell in looove with a pair of green glasses at my optometrist's office, so much so, I apparently I tried to convince them I couldn’t see In the end I paid for my bluff and had to get my eyes dilated. I love how community-oriented GHF is! The 124th Street community has been my home for my entire life so far, and holds a very sp...ecial place in my heart! It fills me with so much joy to see such wonderful businesses popping up in the area and adding so much vibrancy to the community. When I heard about GHF I was beyond excited to hear about their model and mission. It basically boils down to, supporting PEOPLE. This includes people like: our patients, the broader 124th and etown community, our GHF team, our independent suppliers, indigenous communities, and our international NGO partners. The heart of GHF was very evident to me and I couldn’t help but want to be a part of it! My favourite shop on 124th has probably to go to @parcelandprose ! I am a sucker for stationary, and love writing letters to friends when they need some cheering up!" Swipe to see Frances’ frame pick!
