Lent begins this Wednesday! Our church is not having our own Ash Wednesday service this year. Instead you are invited to attend this national United Church service led by the United Church moderator, Rev. Richard Bott, and others. Ash Wednesday, February 17 A Litany of the Masks for Ash Wednesday.... This livestream from the General Council chapel service will offer a time for prayer, scripture, and help us prepare for our Lenten spiritual practice. We invite you to attend with a short piece of string or yarn (20 cm), or some Lego, or a string with seven beads, or a ribbon and seven buttons...and some glue! And your mask. Please bring your mask. (You don't need to wear it, but please bring it.) Join us Wednesday, February 17 at 9:00 a.m. EST / 6:00 a.m. PST on The United Church of Canada YouTube channel: youtube.com/unitedchurchofcanada There will be parts of this chapel time in English and in French, however, there will not be simultaneous translation for this gathering. This service will be recorded for later viewing. #UCCan #UCCanLent2021 #Lent2021 #UCCanCOVID19 #AshWednesday

There is hope in this world, because hope is embedded in the beating of our hearts, because hope is in the sound of gull's cry, in the change of the seasons... that leads from snow and rain into the warmth of summer, because hope is entwined, embedded, in God's love for all creation. We don't need to be filled with hope, because we already are... we just need to be able to recognize it's implacable thrum, it's vibration in our souls, the drumbeat of our being that leads us into the possibility of tomorrow. Jesus was hope incarnate, the Resurrection a timeless moment of new life where life wasn't supposed to be, where death, itself, was transfigured, and hope was alive again! Oh, God, in the midst of my tiredness, in the rollercoaster of the pandemic's to and fro, even as things feel like so much of a sameness, make me aware of the hope that I am, the hope that is your life abundant, living in, and with, and through me. And help me, I pray, help me to help those around me to embody hope, and, enlivened, help it to be felt by all those we meet.
