The custom of groomsmen was developed for helping protect the bride from being stolen during the wedding. The original groomsmen were swordsmen, with the best man, the best swordsman of all. This custom and "Haggis" originated in Scotland.

We should start this tradition in Canada, pretty cool :) An Australian wedding ceremony might feature the tradition of a unity bowl. Guests are given stones and asked to hold them during the ceremony.
