Pregnant people will soon be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Alberta (phase 2b likely April 2021) The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada recommends that vaccination should be offered to all pregnant people who do not have a specific contraindication to the vaccine. There are known risks of becoming infected with COVID-19 in pregnancy. Pregnant people are more likely to have severe illness requiring admission to hospital and the ICU.... The vaccines currently available have not been directly tested on pregnant or breastfeeding women; however, more data is emerging every day. Experts believe that mRNA vaccines pose little risk to people that are pregnant or breastfeeding or those trying to conceive. There is likely benefit to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine while breastfeeding or lactating as immunity can be transferred to baby through breast milk. It is a personal decision to be made whether you would like to receive the vaccine while pregnant. Ask us about vaccination in pregnancy at your next visit! #yycmaternity #yycbabydoc #glenmorematernity #yycpregnancy #pandemicpregnancy #vaccination #covid19vaccination #mrna #publichealth

We wanted to provide our new families a little extra love during this crazy time so we created these COVID kits to give to our expectant and new families. Each kit contains a locally made hand sanitizer, hand made cloth mask, and an organic tea from the Rocky Mountains. The immediate postpartum period can be isolating at the best of times, let alone in the face of a global pandemic. We hope our little kits can be a reminder to reach out if you are feeling isolated, we are h...ere for you and your family. Love, Glenmore Maternity and Group 3 at the Rockyview General Hospital

Could you have imagined that nine months ago, being due in April would mean having your baby in the middle of a pandemic?! We’re so inspired by the bravery and resilience our mom’s and mom’s-to-be are showing in the face of so many unknowns around this virus. We want you to know that we’re here to support you and help your labour and delivery to be as normal and wonderful as possible! At Glenmore maternity, we also have a dedicated psychologist in office for our patients who might be struggling to adapt to this new normal- or any kind of mental health concern whether covid-related or not! Just let us know if you would like to be connected

On what feels like day 1000 of the COVID pandemic, we want to take a moment to give a big shout out to all our nursing and support staff on labour and delivery, post partum and the nursery at the Rockyview General Hospital. These humans are working so hard to welcome and support all our new mommas joining our community from High River and South Health Campus. We know this is a big change for many patients and families, but rest assured you will be cared for by a truly amazing team during your labour journey

MEET OUR TEAM Dr Angie Karlos is the newest addition to our team. Dr Karlos is truly loyal to U of C having completed her undergraduate and masters degrees in Kinesiology, medical school and residency there. Her residency was based in rural southern Alberta where she worked in many wonderful small towns from Pincher Creek to Bassano. In her current practice she has a passion for women’s health, prenatal, newborn care and mental health. ... Outside of work, Dr Karlos was born and raised in Banff (one of the very few!), where her immediate family still lives. She and her husband Marc are avid cyclists and can be found riding bikes on the road or in mountains during the summer. During the winter, she is an avid skier and enjoys spending time in the backcountry. See more

We are coordinating a contact-free drop-off for essential items for our most vulnerable patients. We have a group of moms who typically rely on public transit to run their errands, including grocery shopping for essential items like diapers and formula. Most do not have a credit card to make these purchases online. By trying to reduce their exposure risk to COVID-19, this is no longer an option for them and limits their ability to get these necessa...ry items. We are so grateful to have the most amazing village of humans who supported our request for a car seat for a momma in need. Thank you so much to everyone who donated items. DM us for more info regarding drop off location if you’re able to donate any of these items. See more

- This tiny virus has consumed everyone’s thoughts over the passed few months. It’s a scary time for us all but we wanted to provide not only our expectant parents but also families with children of all ages with the most up to date information about the novel coronavirus. There is a lot we don’t know right now, and what we do know is changing every day. What we know for sure, is that soap and water does an excellent job of killing this virus, so wash those hands and ...wash them well. We are recommending that pregnant parents take social distancing to the next level and formally self isolate starting at 37 weeks, if you haven’t already been doing this. This recommendation is meant decrease the likelihood of being unwell at the time of labour and to be as healthy as possible to take care of yourself and your newborn. We are here for you and your growing family during this challenging time. We have updated our website (which is new!) with the most up to date information we have regarding pregnancy, labour and postpartum. See link below. Yours in health and hand washing, Glenmore Maternity https://glenmorematernity.com/covid-19-notice/

Dear patients at Glenmore Maternity. These are unprecedented times and our goal is to keep you and your family as safe as possible. We are still seeing our prenatal, postpartum and newborn patients in the clinic and have taken a number of measures to provide the greatest level of safety possible. If you are unwell, please read this explanation of why everyone doesn't need a test to stay home. Here is the rational as to why a test will not impact what you should do, or what y...ou will do. 1. you are SICK but WELL - think headache, runny nose, cough, you want a test and somehow you get one. a. it's negative. Hooray! Now what are you going to do? Go back to work even though you are coughing your brains out? Well your colleagues and customers won't care if you scream "but i'm negative!". So guess what? You'll STAY HOME! Because you are still sick - just not with COVID19. And your colleagues and customers should thank you for staying home. b. it's positive. don't worry. 80% of the people with COVID19 have mild symptoms. You'll STAY HOME - as you should. If you get more sick, you will call 911. Brave paramedics in space suits will pick you up and you will likely GET ADMITTED to a hospital. 2. you are are NOT SICK. You want a test because you think you are at risk of COVID19 because the asymptomatic lady across the hall just got back from Palm Springs. Imagine you get one (but you won't) and it's negative. Hooray! Now what are you going to do? Go back to work? Hangout at Chinook mall for a few hours? WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC. Our only weapon against this is to socially isolate/distance. What you should do is STAY HOME. 3. you are SICK and UNWELL - think chest pain, shortness of breath, confusion, lethargy, loss of consciousness. You should call 911. Brave paramedics in space suits will pick you up and take you to a hospital. YOU WILL GET A TEST. If you are positive for COVID19 you will be admitted to a hospital. If you are negative for COVID19 you will be admitted to a hospital. Does everyone see how there is only two paths here: either STAY HOME or GET ADMITTED to a hospital. But it wasn't the test that determined your path. It was SEVERITY. See our updated page on COVID-19 https://glenmorematernity.com/covid-19-notice/
