Here is the Glenmore Sailing Club’s history with Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. In 1982, three Glenmore Sailing Club sailors won the Canadian Dragon Championship at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (Steve Alvey, Kathleen Hutchings and Martin Herbert). The winning crew was invited to RVicYC to a ceremony with Prince Philip pe...rsonally presenting the trophy. ~~~~ Photo 2 the winning crew. ~~~~ Photo 3 - The Duke of Edinburgh Trophy and hardware from the regatta. ~~~~ Details: The Canadian Dragon Championship regatta alternates between the Royal Canadian Yacht Club @rcyctoronto and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club @rvicyc (and occasionally other venues). At the 1982 regatta RCYC sailors scoffed at three Prairie sailors bantering on the way to the early morning start line. The face saving rumour at the end of the regatta when the GSC crew won the regatta was these sailors had twenty years experience sailing Dragons on Glenmore.
