If you think that we can muddle through the pandemic, despite a growing infection rate, please think again. I know wearing a mask is mildly annoying, all the handwashing feels excessive, and social distancing can be boring. However, compared to the alternatives of becoming sick with COVID-19, landing in a hospital, or dying, these are small sacrifices to make. #covid19 #Alberta #UCP

Bill 204 the Voluntary Blood Donations Repeal Act Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo MLA Tany Yao passed Bill 204, the Voluntary Blood Donations Repeal Act. Bill 204 will help to promote blood donations in Alberta, by eliminating arbitrary bans on compensating donors. This Bill repeals ideological NDP legislation and enables an environment where research and development of life-saving medications can be performed right here in Alberta. Other jurisdictions compensate donors. I...n those places, the public system has seen higher donation participation compared to Canada. Mainly, this bill is about plasma donations. Plasma is used to create medications that are saving people’s lives where they had no cures previously. Currently, over 80 percent of plasma therapies used by Canadians originate from paid American donors. #Alberta #UCP See more

Banning carding and establishing clear rules for street checks Kaycee Madu, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Leela Sharon Aheer, Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism, and Status of Women, and Mike Ellis, Chief Government Whip and MLA for Calgary-West, announced that Alberta’s government will ban carding and establish clear rules for street checks to ensure the rights of Albertans are protected and communities have faith in the police that protect them. Alberta’s ...government is committed to ensuring strong relationships between the police and Alberta’s minority communities. While the NDP commissioned a report on carding and street checks in 2017, they refused to act. With today’s announcement, and the government’s ongoing review of the Police Act, Alberta’s government is taking real, concrete action to address the concerns highlighted around policing in Alberta. Alberta’s government believes in improving policing, not defunding the police. The women and men of our law enforcement agencies put their lives on the line for our safety and well-being. We know that Albertans support our police and so does our government. But we also listen to concerns that exist in our communities and that is why we announced these measures today. https://www.cbc.ca//alberta-carding-street-checks-1.5808568 #Alberta #UCP See more

Hear more about how the fastest, cheapest and least disruptive defense against COVID-19 is a little more personal restraint.
