The issues of climate change and food security have long been concerns of our farm's co-op members. Now, amidst COVID-19's impacts the importance of strong, resilient farms feeding our communities is more evident than ever. As Canadian farmers face the short-term shocks of COVID-19 and the long-term impacts of climate change, we are excited to support a plan to recover from the pandemic that could help farmers take on the climate crisis, too. As a member of Farmers For Climat...e Solutions - Fermiers pour la transition climatique, our farmers have been working with colleagues across the country to identify solutions. Stay tuned to our pagewe’re excited to share these recommendations with you! In the meantime, check out the Farmers for Climate Solutions website to learn about this coalition! https://farmersforclimatesolutions.ca/

It’s been rainy. Very rainy. At Earth Apple Organic Farm we have harvested 3 of our 18 varieties of garlic now and we are doing our best to start the curing process, but the cool wet air is not favourable. Nor are the harvesting conditions. Please everyone call for sunshine! . We will be bringing our uncured #purpleglazer #newmountaingarlic to @vanmarkets #rileyparkfm and #troutlakefm tomorrow. #purpleglazer #uncuredgarlic #greasyfresh #farmcircleorganics #certifiedorganic #newmountaingarlic #buybc @ayearofoctobers @glenvalleyorganicfarm

Market friends - please share! Vancouver Farmers Markets' 25th summer season begins this weekend at Riley Park, Trout Lake, and Kitsilano. Our markets are fu...nctioning as ESSENTIAL SERVICES during the COVID-19 pandemic. That means: - We're food-only for the time being (no craft, flowers, or non-food nursery items) - We're reserving the first 30 mins of each market day at all locations for seniors, people with mobility challenges, and others most vulnerable to COVID-19 - Physical distancing will be in effect, including staff-monitored capacity limits inside each market - Credit and debit cards are accepted by most vendors. Select vendors are accepting cash. No Market Money is available at the moment - No social gathering - send only one household member whenever possible and limit interactions while inside the markets - No eating onsite - food trucks are take-out only - No dogs, with the exception of service animals ...and now the good news there is no shortage of local food coming into season! Asparagus, rhubarb, veggie starts, and other spring crops are rolling in from the fields right now Find out more: https://eatlocal.org/2020-summer-update/
