Apologies for the weather . It's not going to be the sunny and warm weekend we deserve. But if you're inside, consider firing up Zoom and joining us for an hour Sunday morning and Glenwood's 2021 AGM. You'll have to make your own pancakes again this year, but feel free to have plate of them with you during the call. See you tomorrow @ 11 AM! https://www.facebook.com/events/277589783734825/
A community member near 160 St. and 95th Ave. is asking if anyone else in the area has experienced or seen vehicles driving up onto the grass. It's happened to them a few times this year along 160th.
Our 2021 AGM is less than a week away. Yes, it's another Zoom AGM, and we know no one enjoys those. But, it's what we've got and we'll make the best of it. Please consider taking out a league membership and joining us so we can elect a Board that can hopefully reopen the hall later this year and continue serving the community. https://www.facebook.com/events/277589783734825
Spring cleaning starts in April: Street sweeping begins the week of April 11th for Glenwood west of 163 St. and the week of April 18th east of 163 St. Major roadways are done at night, residential streets during the day. Watch for signage and please park your vehicles off the street.
With Alex Janvier School set to open on the other side of the greenspace in September, this is the final year for Westlawn School. As a send off, staff are working on a farewell video and are looking for former students, particularly those who attended in the 70s, to take part. Former students can contact Julie-Ann Pike to arrange to be part of the video. Her contact email is [email protected] or she can be contacted at the school 780-484-3456.
A repeat of the multi community Town Hall, hosted by members of the University of Alberta nursing faculty.

There isn't much we can do right now but sit tight and stay safe. But there are still a few things happening in the community. Read about it in the Glenwood Winter Newsletter: https://drive.google.com//1ujxu0AQaZND-C1BXkFtyqVmwg/view
Budget 2021: Day 1 Update We just wrapped up a 12-hour meeting and I want to give everyone a quick update on where things are at. We are on pace to achieve no t...ax increase (0%) in 2021 while reintroducing the funding to the proposed transit cuts, community pools/arenas, the spay & neuter program, and the Community Investment Grant. We also provided 2 more years of revitalization funding for Jasper Place Revitalization (which includes Glenwood Community League, Britannia Youngstown Community League, Canora Community League, and West Jasper Sherwood Community League) as well as Alberta Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta revitalization. YMCA Castledowns will see funding to support reopening once COVID restrictions are lifted. Our grass cutting will still take place in April instead of May - which was one of the proposed budget adjustments - but it's important to be maintaining those fields early in the Spring. We were able to do that without using our long-term investments which would have created a more expensive challenge for the next council during their 2022 budget deliberations. There's still a bit more work left to do on Friday before everything is finalized but the first day of budget deliberations was quite positive as I think we will be able to have no tax increase in 2021 while still funding some of the most essential services. I'll be sure to write a more detailed post once we finish budget and I expect I'll be doing a virtual Community Conversation on Friday afternoon/evening or on the weekend since we didn't get to do it on Monday. Thanks everyone and have a great night!

What are Glenwood households planning for Halloween? Trick-or-treating? Are you giving out candy? If so, are you using a candy chute??
City snow clearing this year will involve parking bans on residential streets until the road has been cleared. If you need to clean out a spot in the garage, now is the time.
"Edmonton is a winter city. For individuals who have no home, winter can be a dangerous time with increased risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Homeward Trust, the City of Edmonton and community partners work together to keep vulnerable Edmontonians safe from the harmful impacts of extreme weather conditions." https://wer-yeg.ca/
A resident recently came face to face with a trespasser stealing bottles from their backyard (near 159 & 98th) and followed them to the local bottle depot. Sigh. Yet another thing to keep an eye out for. But stay safe people.

If you can help, please follow the link below https://volunteersignup.org/R983Y

Coming out of the alley south of Glendale school on his bike, this fellow trespassed on the corner lot in the middle of the afternoon. One of several backyards he was seen creeping around. As you can see, he doesn't have any problem at all entering private property during the day in full view of two witnesses next door as seen here, and the home owner. If you see him on your property call the police right then and there. Enough is enough. Residents have seen him doing this for over a year now.

This is an update primarily for those in Meadowlark Community League, West Meadowlark Community League and Glenwood Community League. There have been a number o...f calls about the condition of 95th Avenue from 163rd to 170th Street. I want to let you know that within the next few weeks, there will be some hot asphalt patching completed to help smooth out the worst parts of that road. That should provide some much needed short-term relief while we await the full reconstruction of that road. The reconstruction is different than the work that was completed on 95th Avenue between 156th and 163rd Street. The work completed earlier this year was the application of a slurry seal which is completed as part of the regular lifecycle maintenance schedule. For the stretch of road from 163rd to 170th Street, it will require a complete reconstruction of the road base For reference, the full reconstruction of that particular stretch of road will be taking place during the 2023-2026 budget cycle. They may align that work with the Neighbourhood Renewal work in the western half of Glenwood. That work is also scheduled to start sometime during the 2023-2026 budget cycle. In case you are about to ask about other roads in the west end, I have asked for the projected arterial and collector rehabilitation schedule. While that schedule is subject to change based on a variety of factors, I thought it would be good to share that information with everyone so we would have a general idea of when certain roads may see additional work beyond the standard pothole repairs. Once I get that, I will be sure to share it with all of you. Of course, if there are any problem spots that you experience while you are out, please make sure you are reporting them by calling 311, emailing [email protected], or submitting concerns using the 311 app. That ensures any problem locations will be added to the repair queue. Thanks everyone.
Sadly, 2020 is still... 2020. Please see this notice from the City of Edmonton on community league swim times: "As of September 6, 2020 the Exclusive Pool Use and Unified Community League Access Program will be suspended for the remainder of 2020. Many of the City of Edmonton Pools are not currently open. The facilities that are open are running at reduced capacity, with adjusted operating hours that would put some of the Community Swim outside of our current operating hours. This is creating an uneven opportunity for Community League Members to access City Facilities at these times. When and how these programs will be reinstated will be established for 2021, barring any new or additional COVID 19 restrictions from Alberta Health Services."

A call for security cam footage: A community member in the area of 162 St. and 97-99 Ave. has had several thefts from their backyard over the past 4 days. If you're nearby and have cameras facing the street or alley, please take a look for individuals carrying away tools and building supplies.
Thank you everyone for helping keep each other safe by picking up masks this week at various transit centres and LRT stations. While we have wrapped up our dist...ribution of masks today, we’re proud of our city for doing their part to follow health guidelines. Don’t forget, wearing masks/face coverings are just an additional measure. Continue proper hand washing & maintain physical distance whenever possible.
An update on what city facilities are opening and when.
