Hi All you Green Thumbs: Thanks to Mr. Sheehy and his Res Con class for their work in the garden, especially Sheldon and Victoria as they did a marvelous job screening our compost!!! It was quite an eye opener for our students to view the end result of the composting process...the apple cores, banana peels, orange peels along with such things as coffee grounds etc., have turned into this very rich soil. This compost is located next to the shed covered with an orange tarp. We would also would like to acknowledge Matt, Gavin and Codi for their efforts in weeding and turning the soil in some of our beds.
Look at what grew in the garden this year! What would this be called?
Some beautiful things blooming and growing in the garden. Thank you to everyone who helped take care of the garden during this hot summer !
Our garden looks great but these high temperatures make the plants very thirsty. We need your help this weekend! Please consider popping by and watering the plants. Ideal times for watering are in the mornings and evenings. Thank you in advance for helping our community garden thrive!!
The grade 5s along with some of the grade 3s of Lakewood Academy were very much engaged when we planted the remainder of our seedlings on Wednesday afternoon. The weather is now cooperating with warm temperatures and an adequate amount of rain as the seedlings adjust to life outside.
Planting has been done at the community garden. Thank you to the students of Lakewood Academy and NewFunLand for their time and talent during the planting process. We look forward to watching things grow throughout the summer. Visitors are always welcome!! A special thank you to Codi for all of his hard work and to Brandon B for his expertise with mentoring the younger generation of gardening enthusiasts.
Children from NewFunLand planting in the garden! Lots of young green thumbs!
Few notes about the garden to pass on. - garden is not getting enough water so if anyone has some extra time the plants would appreciate the water. - when watering please be gentle and don't use sprayer on full force... It's takes the soil away from roots and harms plants. -when watering the green house plants use the black tubes...meaning put hose down in the black tubes and fill them up. These planters are designed to water from bottom. - squash currently have a fungus ...but WI ladies are researching a possible solution. - lots of weeds in the garden if you have time to pull them. Just remember weeds do not go in the compost, they are garage. - crossing fingers for a good crop for kids this fall. Thanks for your support. See more
Few snaps from the garden this week. A huge thank you to the women's Institute ladies, Newfunland staff and town of Glenwood students and others who have dropped by for their help over the summer.
Well more rain! Garden is getting plenty of water but it needs sunshine too so let's hope the weather changes and we don't have a repeat of last July.
Well we are getting lots of rain today for our garden. Won't need to water for a couple of days
Wednesdays at 6:30 there will be a community volunteer at the garden to help assist with garden upkeep planning for that week. If you have already signed up to help at the garden many thanks. Hopefully it will be a rewarding time for you. If you haven't signed up and would like to help out, just head to the garden 6:30 on Wednesdays for directions. Many hands make light work.
