This was created by another face painter named, Angela Von Huber. It is something that face painters all over the world deal with, all the time. Girls who want to be "batman" or "snakes" are cajoled into picking "butterflies" and "fairies". Boys who want to be "unicorns "and "butterflies" are cajoled into being "batman" or "snakes". As face painters, it makes us sad. :( Kids don't see designs. the way adults do. They see the opportunity to transform into something new a...nd different. They see bright bold colours. They see the opportunity to match their friends - and come on, who doesn't love to be twinsies with their bestie? ;) I once had a little girl choose a design based on a photo of me wearing it. Turns out, she didn't actually care about the design. What she wanted was the "sparkly nose" - which was my nose ring - so... we gave her a little sparkle on her nose! We all thought she saw the design, we were wrong. She saw a sparkly nose stud and wanted one for herself! So... in this season of festivals and fairs, BBQs and year end celebrations, please let your kids pick the designs that make their hearts happy, after all, it washes away soon enough leaving only the memory of an awesome time <3

This is a common misconception that people have when they use things like craft paint for face painting. So there you have it! Now you know ;)

This came up in my memories today. This was a fabulous lesson for me, as a parent. When we empower our kids, and get out of their way, they can do GREAT things! It was also a great lesson for the rest of my kids. They got to see first hand the impact their big brother's act of kindness, and his refusal to standby while someone was speaking inappropriately, had not only at his school, but all over the world. Our kids are capable of changing the world. Let's empower them to do it!
