Position: Associate Actuary Organization: Insurance Company Location: Toronto, ON ID: 2593... We are assisting our client in their Toronto, ON office to fill an Associate Actuary vacancy. This new role will be responsible for preparation of quarterly reports and information needed to complete the required filings and financial statements associated with an insurance company. Job Description: - Application of actuarial techniques to insurance and reinsurance. - Prepare actuarial compliance filings by collecting, summarizing and validating data from a variety of data sources, populating forms, submitting filings with regulators, and responding to any resulting questions. - Preparation of experience analyses of various product parameters for insurance products. - Prepare periodic valuation of liabilities. Prepare projections of future product performance for use in various corporate analyses. Participate in quarterly and annual financial reporting, preparation of forecasts and analysis of results for insurance and reinsurance business. - Assist in preparation of actuarial elements of Annual Statements for Insurance legal entities. - Support operations team in review of data. Understand, reconcile and analyze inputs to actuarial work product from changes in underlying data. Qualifications: - Minimum of 5+ years of life or health actuarial experience. - Fellowship preferred but will consider a minimum of Associateship membership in Society of Actuaries or Canadian Institute of Actuaries. - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Access and PowerPoint. - Working knowledge of valuation/projection software. - Ability to complete complex actuarial processes accurately using fact-based analysis. - Ability to work efficiently and accurately with large data sets. - Experience with preparing actuarial compliance filings. - Experience in valuation of life and health insurance policies and systems. - Proven ability to lean quickly, and to apply known concepts to new situations. - Strong time management and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and work within time constraints. - Able to effectively and concisely communicate written, visual and verbal messages and to translate technical information to a non-technical audience. - Attention to detail.

Job Description: - The incumbent is accountable to actively promote rate adequacy with other departments and the Regions. This accountability often leads to heated negotiations with others. The incumbent must be able to handle pressure. - Direct creation of regulatory rate filings, and negotiate with provincial regulators to secure desired structural and rate amendments as per internally agreed upon timeline. - Using internal and external data sources (e.g. corporate data warehouse, Insurance Bureau of Canada Statistical Plan data), investigate and identify factors underlying variations in loss experience. Working with the business units, elaborate strategies to address such underlying causes to improve profitability. - Estimate the premium impact of legislative amendments (e.g. tort reforms), as well as product and pricing decisions using dislocations analyses. - Work with the Strategic Business Units and the Regions to solve business problems of the following nature: retention, growth, profitability, competitive positioning. Through the use of data and actuarial techniques, develop possible and recommended courses of action to solve business problem. - Work with GLM modeling techniques to develop and maintain the optimal rating structure for a given product, taking into account profitability, forecasted competitiveness and impact on business retention. Develop and maintain tracking reports to measure the level of success of these new structures. Present and interpret tracking results to the Region, and recommend corrective actions, if required. - Participate in the corporate business plan re-forecast exercises by providing actuarial advice on parameters used to forecast business growth, retention and profitability. This also includes assessing what future rate increases could be approved by provincial regulators. Qualifications: - Minimum of 5 years of experience within actuarial services as well as 2 years of management experience. - FCAS preferred but will consider a strong ACAS actively working towards fellowship. - Infrequent, scheduled travel required, often overnight. - Professional, friendly and courteous in all interactions, whether with customers or co-workers. - Team player adaptable to a changing environment. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Strong Management skills.
