Still waiting for the CCMTA to issue some kind of direction. They're having their AGM this week. Hopefully it will provide an update.

Electronic Logging Devices What you need to know. If you have drivers that are currently required to maintain Hours of Service logbooks, get ready for a major transition in your world. Both Canada and the USA will soon require Electronic Logging Devices. The USA has completed their mandate and technical specifications. With the Canadian government transition last year, Canada’s ELD initiative lost some momentum. We currently have no definitive technical specs for Canadian ope...rators, or a go-live date. It is expected that Canada will match the USA start date of December 2017, and to have similar, if not identical, technical specs. There are several companies providing ELD’s, but without definitive specifications, they may or may not be in compliance. The window for compliance will be tight. In a nutshell, ELD’s will probably require (in part): - Direct connection to the Engine Control Module - Automatic recording of duty status changes - GPS positional recording - Automatic driving detection - Minimal driver duty status editing - Original data retention after editing - Automatic log graphing - Tamper resistance - Outside-of-cab display for inspections - Data download capable For those of you who remember trucking deregulation, TDG regulations, and the various changes to HOS rules, you’ll recognize the challenges involved with ELD’s will be significant. Testing, training, and management system development will be required well before the regulations become effective. For more information, please go to ELDCanada.ca. See more
