Quick update on the case of a sleeping dog that was shot and killed in #Patiala : The abuser Taranjot Singh was produced before the Magistrate yesterday, bail w...as denied and he has been remanded to judicial custody (jail). Facts of the case: The video was brought to my attention by Actor @mansha_bahl who was tagged on the video by someone else. After receiving the video we immediately swung into action, worked with @vikramjeetduggal.ips of @patiala_police to get an FIR registered and have the abuser arrested. The Patiala police registered an FIR on the basis of my complaint to the SSP and DSP. Commendable work done by DSP Patran Shri Bharpur Singh and his team under the able leadership of SSP Patiala Shri @vikramjeetduggal.ips The abuser was nabbed in a matter of hours, the fire arm he used was seized, dog’s body recovered, case booked including under stringent provisions of Arms Act, 1959. Since the provisions under which we got him booked are non-bailable, Taranjot, the abuser was produced before the Magistrate and sent to judicial custody (jail) for 14 days. This judicial custody will be renewed after every 14 days by the Magistrate as a part of judicial procedure. Taranjot will have to make out a case for bail and satisfy the Magistrate as to why he should be granted bail. Now it is for the magistrate to decide whether bail needs to be granted or not. Granting bail or not is in the Magistrate’s domain and discretion. The police and public prosecutor have been persuaded to oppose the bail plea of the accused. Many thanks to @thejohnabraham for pledging support, reaching out to us and the senior police officials urging them to take the case seriously and ensure the abuser is punished to the fullest extent of the law. We commend and thank @vikramjeetduggal.ips for his prompt intervention and action, for dealing with the matter sensitively and leaving no stone unturned to nab the abuser immediately. It was a team effort of @patiala_police and @petaindia to bring the perpetrator to justice. We are hopeful that this man will be punished for this heinous crime after trial concludes and he is pronounced guilty by a court of law.
