We celebrated World AIDS Day this past Sunday and if you are feeling inspired by the occasion the Living Positive Christmas Drive is a great way to express it! LPK is looking to raise money for a Christmas hamper for 100 families as well as a big Christmas lunch for all of the families. So far we have only reached 14 Christmas hampers, we have some work to do! The cost is $40.00 Canadian for each hamper and attached is a list of whats included. Individuals can donate through ...either E-Transfer or Canada Helps. We are collecting donations until December 6th 2019!

Watch this if: Movies about social justice are what you need! Launched in 2012 by the local arts organization JAYU as a means of getting important and inspirational stories onscreen, the Human Rights Film Festival opens its eighth annual program of very well-intentioned movies with the Canadian premiere of a doc about an unusual program in a Virginia prison. 16 Bars depicts an initiative by American musician and activist Todd Thomas (a.k.a. Speech from Arrested Development) to help inmates express emotions and experiences in musical form in hopes of reducing recidivism rates. Director Sam Bathrick will do a post-screening Q&A with Thomas joining in via Skype. (Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, 506 Bloor St. W., 6:30 p.m., festival on until Dec. 10)
