SPRING/SUMMER TRAINING WORKSHOPS We have finalized the dates for our Spring/Summer beekeeping training sessions. During this intensive 2 day course we will focus on all aspects of hands on equipment assembly & selection, seasonal beekeeping responsibilities, bee biology, two sessions working with live bees, assessing brood patterns, frame manipulation to get "winter ready", identification and marking a queen, how to install a nucleus colony ("nuc"), how to set up a swarm tra...p, and how to catch a swarm, identification and selection of pollinator friendly plants and apiary site selection. The introductory courses are dated for May 20/21, 2017 & June 10/11, 2017 and will run from 10:00am - 5:00pm, Saturday and Sunday at 28 Old Settlement Hill, Freshwater (Placentia Bay). We will also be offering a training session on queen rearing that is dated for July 15 & 29, 2017, and will run from 10:00am - 5:00pm at 28 Old Settlement Hill, Freshwater (Placentia Bay). This will be a two day session with two weeks in between to allow for eggs to develop, and emerge. The course will include graphting and nycot techniques, installing queen cells into nucleus colonies, and introducing new queens to nucleus colonies. Lunch each day will be included with registration fee. Coffee and refreshment breaks also included. Registration Fee: Introductory Course: $190 for NLBKA members, $220 for non-members.
