Another nice review from some great customers! "We just wanted to thank you for being able to replace our hot water tank so quickly. Steve did a great job, very efficient and made sure everything was left clean and tidy!... Thanks again!"

Furnaces: Check vs Cleaning vs Service There seems to be a lot of discrepancy over what services companies offer when it comes to furnace maintenance. The first thing I will start with is a furnace Check. This is typically the free service that Atco provides. Their mandate is to make sure the furnace is operating in a safe manner, nothing more. Dont get me wrong, I would rather see people do this as opposed to nothing!... The second is having your furnace Cleaned. This is usually what duct cleaning companies offer. They come into your house and clean all of your ducts and clean the furnace as well. All they are doing is wiping down the hard surfaces of your furnace. They usually do not have the education to know if the furnace is operating in a safe matter or at its peak efficiency. The last is having your furnace Serviced. This is what HVAC companies do. They check for to ensure the furnace is safe to run and they do a physical clean of the furnace. However, this is where they differentiate themselves, they also check voltages, gas pressure and amperages. Checking these three things can help spot potential issues down the road. We can also adjust fan speeds, gas pressures and control board timing to help your furnace run as efficiently as possible. A furnace Service is what most furnace warranties require annually for validation. We offer an annual maintenance program so do you not have to remember to have your furnace serviced every year, we do the remembering for you! As always if you have any questions or need our help please call us @ 403-652-1282 or visit www.gmmech.net

Time for part 2 of our new series of posts here highlighting our employees. Up next is Ralph! Ralph is our Heating Manager and has been with G.M. Mechanical for just over 7 years! He is a Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic who has over 30 years of experience in the trade! The one thing I want to mention about Ralph is that he isn't your typical "installer". He actually cares about every job he does in trying to make it functional as well as esthetically pleasing. He does... excellent fabrication work in the shop which shows the different between having properly installed ductwork can make on proper airflow! He currently lives in High River with his wife, but has been in High River for 22 years. He has 4 kids that all grew up in the area as well. He states that the favorite part of his job is, "The variety of jobs to be done. No job is exactly the same and every job is a new learning experience." One thing I had to ask my employees if only for my own benefit was, "why G.M. Mechanical?" This is what I got from Ralph, "It is a local company and they are a good group of guys to work with." Ralph is a great team member who can take a joke just as well as he can give it, as you can see with the second picture. He definitely helps the morale of other guys here. His main hobby is golfing which I know he is much better at than I am! I truly think he likes when he has to travel to a job since he gets to try out a new golf course. You may have seen Ralph around town as he is part of the High River Alliance Church, an active member of the High River Kinsmen Club and volunteers his time as the equipment manager for the High River Junior B Flyers. Ralph is another guy that worked for G.M. Mechanical many years ago and came back. Back then the poor guy even had me as a "helper" on some jobs and at that age, I know he'll say that I wasn't much help at all (and he'd be right). He ran his own HVAC company until we eventually bought him out to bring him back into the fold. Thank you Ralph for all you do around here! For those of you reading, feel free request a different employee for the next profile. See more

So we are going to start a new series of posts here highlighting our employees. Since most people end up talking to Shayne, I figured that we would start with him. Shayne is our Service Manager and has been with G.M. Mechanical for a about 8 years! He is a Journeyman Plumber/Gas Fitter who has been in the trade for 20 years. He even took Refrigeration and Air Conditioning courses and is extremely knowledgeable no matter what the problem is.... He currently lives in High River with his wife, but has been in the Foothills for 42 years. He has 3 kids that have all grown up in the area as well. He states that the favorite part of his job is, "The feeling I get being able to provide the resources to help people with whatever issues they may be having at that time." I joke sometimes that he is almost like a therapist as he often talks to people during crisis situations and calms them down. Although I joke, it is often true. Whether they have water leaking in their house or no heat in the middle of winter, Shayne does an excellent job to calm people down by letting them know that someone is on the way. One thing I had to ask my employees if only for my own benefit was, "why G.M. Mechanical?" This is what I got from Shayne, "I like that G.M. Mechanical is a local, family owned business that I can continue to have a hand in growing within the community." He also states that he would like to get better at his job by continuing to "develop the skills and knowledge in my field in order to continue to provide the best service possible." Frankly, I already think he is excellent at his job! Some of his hobbies include golfing, fishing and travelling. I do know that he is looking forward to next spring to test his new boat out! And just an FYI, the second picture is from prior to his 8 years as Service Manager to back when he worked for us as a plumber and air conditioning technician roughly, 15 years ago! Thank you Shayne for all you do around here and for those of you reading, I will try to complete a different employee profile every 1-2 weeks.

Our new truck.... I wonder if the resolution is good enough?

GM Mechanical Ltd. 18.06.2020

Well the new change coming to G.M. Mechanical isn't the biggest of secrets. It wouldn't take Sherlock 'Ohms' or Dr. 'Watt'son to figure it out. 'Volt'aire certianly wouldn't have written about it. I think we have given 'amp'le clues as to what is coming. Most people won't even be 'shocked' and see this as a natural progression. Few more days....

GM Mechanical Ltd. 15.06.2020

I love Alberta!

GM Mechanical Ltd. 10.06.2020

Hmm... I hate keeping secrets, should I announce the new change today? Nah, I'll wait. After all the official announcement is less than a week away!

GM Mechanical Ltd. 03.06.2020

It's coming... 'nuff said.

GM Mechanical Ltd. 17.05.2020

GM Mechanical Ltd. 13.05.2020

A very big thank you to Joe and everyone at GM Mechanical who delivered 40 bags of litter and 2 boxes of raw food diet for our allergy dog Bo today! Litter is appreciated more than you know! Thanks so much!

Just dropped off a truck load for Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue. What an excellent organization that truly puts animals first. While I was out there, I had to take a picture of this dog, I think his name is Princeton. While all the other dogs were barking and jumping, this dog was calm and quiet. Such a beautiful dog. I'd adopt him myself if we didn't already have two "adoptees". ... Also, a big thank you to Chris at High River Petvalu for helping us make our donation money go further!

GM Mechanical Ltd. 20.04.2020

We deal with a lot of electricians. Most are good, some are great, and a few of them are better than the rest... This is one of the companies that is definitely "better than the rest"!

GM Mechanical Ltd. 13.03.2020

I'm not famous but I think I'm doing ok... Son told me this morning that I am, "the best dad in the whole world." I'm just going to ignore the part of him likely being told to say that by his Mother! Jokes aside, I want to say thank you to all of the Fathers (and Mothers) that work so hard for us to provide for their families!

Be careful who you hire! One of our technicians was dispatched to a house where the customer has someone come in to replace their furnace almost a month ago. The furnace was not working properly and the guy who installed it would not return their calls. Where to start...... 1. This guy took a deposit. In Alberta you have to be registered to receive deposits on work and I know that this guy was not. 2. He did not remove the old furnace from the house, actually left it in their living room. 3. The venting for the furnace was not glued together, leaving the potential for CO and CO2 to leak into the house. 4. The venting was just stubbed out under a deck. You are not allowed to terminate a high efficient furnace underneath a deck. You have to run the vent to the end of the deck and insulate all of the piping. 5. The drain from the furnace was just ran across the floor and not even to a floor drain. 6. He only ran an exhaust vent and not an intake vent. This would have been fine if the basement had a combustion air intake, but in this case, it did not. 7. He did not install a chimney liner for the water heater vent. There are some cases where this is not required due to length and size of existing chimney, but in this case it was required. Our technician is there now making sure that this furnace is at least safe to operate. We never claim to be the cheapest, but we do stand behind our work. For a few hundred more, this customer would have had a complete job done that would have included 10 year parts and labour warranties! Lastly, if you are at all skeptical of the person you are hiring, ask the to pull a permit. This may cost you a couple hundred dollars extra, but at least someone will be inspecting their work! Sorry about this rant, but I can't believe anyone would do work this bad. This isn't making a mistake or 'shotty' workmanship, it is negligent. I hope you all stay safe out there!

Filtration!!!!! https://www.lennox.com//indoor-air-quality/air-purification Just some of the options that we can add to your home system. I believe that the PureAir is the best home filtration system on the market without breaking the bank! I would have put it in my own house if I had space to do so.... I went with the MERV 11 Filters and cabinets. They do an amazing job with dust (on an acreage), pet dander and hair (two large dogs that are about to lose their winter coats) and pollen (allergies). During the forest fire season, I sometimes install the MERV 16 filter into the same cabinet. The MERV 16 has carbon built into it and can remove the smoke and other odours. My child also went back to daycare last November and started bring every cold known to man home. So I installed a bypass HEPA filter to help with any airborne viruses. Noticed a huge difference in how clean our air was and the colds didn't get spread around as easily. Lots of options, we just need to find out which the best option for you is! Stay Safe!

Bad time for advertising, but In these times I like good stories and I thought this was pretty cool. Of course, as a Premier Lennox Dealer, I try out some of the best technology available. In my house, I have two furnaces, one for the main floor and one for the basement suite where my parents live. So of course I went with the best furnaces on the market, the Lennox SLP98V with iComfort communicating, wifi thermostats. Well in my sales spiel for these furnaces and thermos...tats, I always mention that you could have an alert that your furnace failed to fire before the temperature drops in your house. Well it happened. I got the e-mail, called my Dad and the furnace was working again in no time. I'm doubt my Mom even knew the furnace went out. Now we will still have to replace the part when I get home, but the great things is that there is a 10 year parts warranty on that furnace! Sooner or later, we will be able to go about our day to day lives and travel. This is just something that can give you a little piece of mind. Stay safe and healthy everyone. We will get through this!
