Ah yes...now I remember why this is one of my favorite places! Hanging out with the cool kids for retreat weekend! Tonight we closed with The [Thomas] Merto...n Prayer...surely a sign of what tomorrow might bring... My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. Fall Retreat 2019 I apologize for the lack of communication that we have had this year re: the retreat. The problem has been to try to find a speaker. It looked as though we had secured one on a few occasions only to find out that they were unavailable. Increasingly it seemed as though we were left with our own resources. I wrestled with this because it has never been my intention to create a following. And, to be honest, I don't want the extra work of preparation at this... point. I do know that many of you have set aside this weekend to come to Grand Manan and to take the retreat in. So we are going to go ahead with the weekend. The format will be basically the same but our gathering place will be Community Life Church (September 27,28). This will simplify things to some degree. There will be a Friday evening session at 7:00pm. Saturday morning will be two sessions and the afternoon will be reserved as a spiritual exercise that will allow you to be out and about on the island. We will conclude with supper and a debriefing on Saturday evening from 5-7:00pm. I would invite any who may be interested to take in our service at CLC on Sunday morning as well. I am going to ask you to come in participant mode. I am not an expert in any particular field. My heart is pastoral. My head is engaged in my faith, my worship, my passion for Christ. I am convinced that our time could be more beneficial than any of us might imagine ... especially me. When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours. - Romans 1:12 I am going to ask as well that you give us a firm indication as to your attendance by September 13. Please do not send money ahead of time. When all is said and done, we'll take an offering so that we can pay expenses and perhaps have some money on hand for next year. The purpose of our gathering is to enlarge or awareness of the vast spiritual landscape that our individual traditions often obscure. By now you know that you will encounter people whose ideas are different than your own. This may create some discomfort and require some stretching on your part. Our prayer is that you can hold this tension in the context of brotherly love and mutual respect. Just a note letting me know if you plan to attend, is all that is required.
