Many of us will never forget where we were when we heard the tragic news of the events of 9/11. Now, 19 years later, Newfoundland during that time is the basis of Come From Away, a story that is playing around the world to so many people. We are thrilled to welcome Wendy Woodland into our studio faculty every Friday, specializing in Classical Voice and Musical Theatre. Wendy has been a pillar of the Western Newfoundland arts community for many years, and is no stranger to the Gros Morne Summer Music stage - we couldnt be happier to formally welcome Wendy to the Graham Academy!

Another studio teacher that we are so lucky to have is the amazing Yvette Coleman! Yvette will be offering studio lessons in classical voice and songwriting! Many of Yvettes lessons will be virtual, but she will have in-person lessons as often as she can in Corner Brook. Another new program that we are excited to offer this fall is Designing Interactive Experiences (Interactive Arts III)! In this course, we will begin exploring professional software used in a variety of creative digital fields such as photo editing, sound design, creative coding, and online gaming administration. Students will use this knowledge to create interactive, immersive experiences both individually and in a collaborative group project. This class will empower student...s to develop a unique, out-of-the-box creative and technical skill set to give them the tools to express themselves in an increasingly digitized world. Our next studio teacher that we want to highlight is the talented Reg Kachanoski! Reg is a fairly new face around GA, but some of you may have met him over the summer when he led our Virtual Corner Brook camps and masterclasses. We are so excited to have him join our Graham Academy team! Reg will be offering studio lessons is music production, recording, sound design, and electroacoustic composition. Our next new program that we are excited to offer this year is Breaking the Mold: Gaming the Arts (Interactive Arts II)! This program will introduce kids to a variety of concepts and software used in digital art and game design. We will learn about interaction design, game mechanics, digital audio, photo-editing, and much more! We also take our gaming to the next level by making our own textures and assets for Minecraft. These skills will be applied to make fun mini-games and additions to our Virtual Corner Brook server! Interactive Arts II is for students in grades 6-8 and will take place on Tuesdays from 3:45-5:15. We are so lucky to have some of Corner Brooks most talented teachers here at the Graham Academy Studio! We are very excited to introduce some new programming this year! Our new Interactive Arts Program will engage students interested in computers, gaming, and creativity! Digital Literacy Through Gaming... (Interactive Arts I) will inspire young learners to develop their curiosity for interactive systems through video games.
