#100YearsAgo: The first overhead door was invented. In 1921, C.G. Johnson invented the first garage door that could be lifted upwards, parallel to the garage ceiling. Before this, garage (or carriage house) doors opened outwards or sideways, taking on a lot of wear and tear from inclement weather (like snow!). Needless to say, this new door was a ground-breaking invention for us Canadians particularly with the invention of the electric door opener only 5 years later.
