So you have a small business, or want to setup a small business, but not sure if you have what it takes to rock it? Every business should have a strategy in place. That strategy can and will evolve over time - but it's important to get grounded on what it is. That's why I LOVE the Lean Canvas.... It is a 1 page snapshot of the key components of a business strategy. Take a look at the sections, and start thinking through whether your business can answer these questions. If you can't yet - that's ok, but you should start thinking about what you can do to start figuring it out! #smallbusinesscanada mallbusiness #smallbusinessowner #smallbusinesses #smallbusinesssaturday #smallbusinessowners #smallbusinesslove #smallbusinessmarketing #smallbusinesstips #smallbusinesslife #smallbusinesssupport #smallbusinessconsultant #smallbusinessweek #SmallBusinessLoans #smallbusinessmatters #smallbusinesscoach #smallbusinessuk #smallbusinesswner #smallbusinessadvice #smallbusinessbc #smallbusinesscrm #smallbusinessrocks #SmallBusinessConsulting #smallbusinessgrowth #smallbusinesss #smallbusinessstartup #smallbusinessapproval #smallbusinesswomen #smallbusinessexpo

Ever wonder if the content that you're writing whether its on a social channel, your website, or in an email is resonating with your prospective customers? Do they "get" what you're saying? If you're not sure - there's a simple thing that you can do, it's called the highlighter exercise. ... Ask about 5-10 prospective customers (ideally strangers that don't really know you or your brand, but fit in your target audience) to see if they'll chat with you 1 on 1 for market research purposes and to help with your small business. If it's in person - share some of the copy (i.e. a snapshot of your website, a recent email, a new brochure) - and ask them to highlight in one color what they love/like, and in another color - what they don't like, or find confusing. If it's online - use Zoom, and email them a Word document - and ask them to open it, share screens and highlight away. Then ask "why"? The richness will be in the type of things that you hear. If these folks are telling you that something is confusing, or have some specific questions that they keep asking - you now have an idea of how to address it in your copy. Worried people want to participate? You'll be surprised how receptive some people can be to providing just 15 minutes of their time to help a small business out. And if you need to, provide an incentive- like a $15 gift card (Amazon or Starbucks work great!). Support Local However and whenever you can support your local small businesses, because they can’t do it without you. Small businesses are pivotal to our economy and to our communities, and have had to navigate the difficulties that come with the COVID pandemic.... We have been blown away and humbled by the efforts that local small businesses make in their communities. For example, I recently spoke to a small toy shop. Whenever they are exploring whether to add a new arts & crafts product in their store, they get a sample of the toy and have an adored tester to check it out for them. This adored tester is a young child with a grave illness, and they provide a little ray of sunshine by including her in the toy vetting process, and providing countless complimentary toys to the child. There’s a dance studio that has had to reinvent how they service their clients. Instead of having 20 kids in a class, they send instructors to their dancer’s backyard for 1:1 instruction so that their dancers can continue to practice. The mental health clinic that provides advice to their patient and local communities on how to manage mental health during this challenging period. Small businesses make an extraordinary impact on our communities. Please support them as much as you can.
