GOAHL 01.06.2021

WEEK 5 RECAP: In our last games before entering into the "Red Zone" break, GOAHL West looked to keep their undefeated record intact, Accent Logos looked to add their first points in the W column, and C.W. Custom looked to avenge their 8-0 defeat vs. Oil Changers from their previous meeting. The first goal of the game was an absolute snipe by Deklyn Campbell, who flew down the right side and blew a top-shelf rocket past goaltender Max Quain. Campbell added another to put Accen...t Logos up 2-0. GOAHL West was not ready to suffer their first loss of the season, and came back with two goals of their own to tie the game. Accent Logos got into a bit of penalty trouble and GOAHL took advantage of their opportunities, converting on both of their penalty shots. GOAHL would go on to win 4-2, improving their record to 4-0-1 on the season. Max Quain turned away 21 shots in this victory, which is not his highest total of the season, however the quality of saves he had to make were outstanding! Without Quain's athletic ability, GOAHL would have been in a lot of trouble of taking the L. Oil Changers came out fired up for this one, finding the back of the net early to take a 1-0 lead. It was a back and forth battle, where Oil Changer held a 3-2 lead before C.W. had a great play down low, which was met by a massive save by Oil Changers netminder, Andrew Brooks. Brooks turned the play up ice, where Tyson Parker finished the play off by converting a big save in one end, to scoring a goal in the other, putting Oil Changers up 4-2. C.W. did not want to suffer the same fate as their last matchup versus Oil Changers and stormed back to tie the game at 4, before Keil put the nail in the coffin with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. Dandenault had 34 saves in the win. Player of the Week honour goes to GOAHL West forward, Misha Wakefield. Misha's game has been getting stronger as each week passes, and he has proven to be just as valuable defensively as he is offensively. Scoring a goal and adding two helpers, Misha was also a presence in his own end - taking away lanes, causing a couple of turnovers and controlling the play with and without the puck. Congratulations Misha!

Week 2 recap: Week 2 saw Active Health Institute face off against Amped Sports Lab. Amped lead the way in the first half, outscoring and outchancing Active Health Institute the whole way through the period. Lead by Noah Gibbons, amped led 3-0 going into the second. Active Health made it a close game by scoring a couple early to make it 3-2. Teams exchange goals and Aunt let it late until Active Health scored in the dying minutes of the second half to tie the game 4-4, which i...s how the game ended. The second game of the night pitted Mitten Building Products versus GOAHL Central. GOAHL proved to be too much for Mitten this game, winning handedly 6-0. Jamie Daalder had a pair of penalty shot goals, Altenpohl with a couple, and Justin Flamini and Anthony Fiorenza netting their first of the season. Cohen Lesperance-Spack stopped all 23 shots to earn the Central divisions first shutout. Player of the Week honour goes to Noah Gibbons. Gibbons was completely dominant in their game, and with two goals and one assist, he what is a major factor for his team ending with a tie. Beaulne had to make four or five more big stops on Gibbons, or the game would have been a blowout in Amped's favour.

Player of the Week Paolo Peloso with a beauty!

WEEK 4 RECAP: The intensity is picking up in the West division, as we had the fastest paced games of the season which saw CW facing off against Accent Logos, and Oil Changers vs. GOAHL West. The first tilt of the night looked like it was going to be a blowout victory for CW, who came out with three goals in the first half to take a 3-0 lead going into the second. Paolo Peloso lead the charge with two beautiful goals, one coming on a penalty shot. Accent goalie Lartigue-Willia...ms shut the door in the second half, giving his team a fighting chance. Accent Logos did make it close and pulled within one with a late-game charge, but fell short in the push. CW improves to 2-2, while Accent Logos still search for their first W of the season. Oil Changers looked to avenge their loss to GOAHL in week one. This was a very evenly played game, with pressure put on both goalies with some quality shots. The game was tied halfway through the second half, when Ben MacMullen scored on a penalty shot to give Oil Changers the lead. Just as GOAHL West has done all season, they found a way to put one past Brooks with 1:30 left on the clock to tie it back up. The last minute turned into a shootout that saw an end-to-end rush by Josh Weekes, who walked through the entire Oil Changers team and just barely missed the top corner, followed by a Kody Hull end-to-end rush with 6 seconds left and almost ended it for Oil Changers! GOAHL maintains their undefeated record with the tie. Player of the Week honour goes to Paolo Peloso. Peloso potted two highlight-reel worthy goals on the week. Peloso played a great game at both ends of the ice, taking care of business in his own end as well as producing offensively. Highlight of the night goes to Kevin Lartigue-Williams. Unfortunately the game was not video'ed, however Williams does deserve a shoutout to the incredible save he made late in the first. The puck was passed cross-crease to an open player back door, and Williams was able to push across and make a massive save where everyone in the stands thought for sure it went in the net. This preserved the 3 goal deficit, which gave his team a chance to stay in the game.
