Meet A Guest Speaker of TDOR 2020 - Remembrance as an act of creativity and care community conversation. Dane Woodland (He/Him)- is a personal train...er and public speaker in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador. After gaining local attention by advocating for better access to gender affirming surgeries, Dane shifted his focus to gender-based norms, specifically considering the way acquired masculinity and male privilege affected his life. In 2016, Dane delivered a talk at TEDxYouth@StJohns entitled: How Male Privilege Made Me a Feminist and has since had the opportunity to lead numerous talks at schools, professional development days, guest lectures at Memorial University of Newfoundland, and interviews for radio and other media. Dane is a co-author of Newfoundland’s first transgender publication, transVersing (Breakwater Books, 2018), which won a bronze award in the 2018 Foreword INDIES reviews, and he was shortlisted as a nominee for the Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Award in 2018. When he is not involved in public speaking, Dane spends his time coaching and participating in fitness, and is an ambassador for lululemon St. John’s. He was recently able to reach an audience of 3.4M on the lululemon global Instagram page through a Stories of Pride feature. Dane believes strongly in lifelong learning and using his voice to promote change and connection. Stay tuned to see this guy crush more goals in the future! Join us and event partners Trans Support NL Inc., MUN Students' Union - MUNSU and First Light on Friday November 20th at 7pm(NT). Please register here: https://forms.gle/RzcBnFRLip8mq6oH9 ASL and Closed Caption will be provided This event is funded in part by the Government of Canada thanks to United Way Newfoundland and Labrador and the Emergency Community Support Fund from Employment and Social Development Canada #ECSFund
