This morning started out a bit smoky but it has turned into a beautiful afternoon.

Wildfire crews continue to work fires in the Klondike region today. Here is a summary of yesterday's activity on two of those fires: The Hunker Summit fire (pic...tured) has grown to 1,623 hectares and remains out of control. Extreme fire behaviour delayed progress containing the fire via constructed fire guards. The fire saw more growth on its east side than its west side. The Hunker Creek Road remains closed from Gold Bottom to Sulphur Creek; Dominion Road remains closed from the Hunker Creek Road to Gold Run. The Pigue Creek fire has grown to 13,761 hectares. Due to the fire’s location in a transitional fire management zone, work continues to focus on structure protection. Sprinklers were activated today on three sites south of the fire. Due to the fire, it is not advised to attempt travel on the Stewart River via the McQuesten airstrip put-in.
