Golden Eagle Organ Company 07.06.2021

Today, March 19th, 2021, marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Golden Eagle Organ Company. My first job with this business I founded, was on this day, the feast of St. Joseph, the 'father' of Yeshuah at St. Mary's Cathedral in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1996. I was asked to repair a Baldwin player piano in the parish rectory. I started the invoice numbers at 100 because invoice 1 looked a little small:-) My last invoice was just number 5278. I would like to ta...ke this opportunity to thank all the people who have entrusted their work to me and the many employees and volunteers I have had over the years. It has been quite a ride. Tons of work, often very long hours and lots of self sacrifice on the part of my wife, Rosario. I have met and shared thoughts, ideas, and empathy with so many wonderful people over the years. I wish I could thank you all personally. . I would like to wish you all blessings from the Creator, happiness, and a very musical future! Bill

Another pump organ completed. This one is an Estey made in 1873 (in the video I couldn't remember the exact date and said it was 1868 or so) This was a partial restoration in order to get everything working. The organ was not re-tuned but the reeds were thoroughly cleaned and polished. This organ lived in the UK, then Australia, and finally in Saskatchewan before landing in my shop for restoration.

Here are some photos of the Mason and Hamlin c.1895 organ just restored:

This is a demonstration of a Mason and Hamlin organ, built c. 1895, which I just finished doing a conservative restoration on. It has two 5 octave ranks, one at 8' pitch and one at 4' pitch, a treble compass 8' Celeste rank, and a one octave 16' Subbass. Mason and Hamlin Organ Company was very proprietary about their manufacturing techniques. For example, they made their own reeds and made them different from everyone elses, so that reeds from other manufacturers couldn't be... easily used in their organs. This organ has a much more complicated pallet valve system than any other make I have worked on as well as the bellows and stop action. This required a lot more work than is usually the case. All this complexity was intended to allow them to give a relatively small organ a lot more facility than would be found in their competitor's similar models. Unfortunately, the battery in my camera ran out and cut off my demostration of the Vox Humana which is the precursor to the Leslie tone cabinet which made the Hammond organ famous. The difference is that this unit is powered by air vacuum and the Lelise spins it's drum with electric motors, but both create a doppler effect. Mr. Leslie undoubtedly got his idea fot eh lieslie tone cabinet from a parlour organ he played or saw somewhere. One other caveat to this video, my camera has a 'feature' called 'automatic volume control' which cannot be turned off. This means that you will not hear the dynamiv range of the organ, everything will more or less sound the same volume. It is a pitty, because this instrument is actually very expressive.

8' Aeoline with only a number inscribed on CC which looks like 14608. Zinc 1-12. From 13 to 61it is a Dulciana. It appears to be Casavant pipework. The scales o...f the Aeoline and Dulciana extension match. 62 scale at CC. I had said earlier that it was of spotted metal, I was out to the storage building recently and had a better look (it's been in there for a long time). I was wrong about that. The top 49 pipes are of plain metal. Approx. 1/4 cutup scroll tuned. Good condition. Crating and shipping extra. Call 306-230-7269 or email at: [email protected]. Ask for Bill. Thank you. See more

Yesterday the owners of this organ came to return it to their home after a complete restoration. I earlier posted photos of the cabinet, these are photos of the completed instrument. The owners sent me a photo of the organ in their home where it has pride of place. It was pitched to an old British standard which is about a quarter tone sharp. It has been re-tuned to A440 with the back set of reeds tuned as a Celeste, as is standard practice, however, with a slower beat than is customarily used in pipe organs.
