April 1, 2021 To: All Golden Manor Residents, Families and Substitute Decision Makers Re: COVID-19 Update Provincial Emergency Brake... We thank everyone for their continued support and are grateful to report that currently, there are no positive cases of the COVID-19 virus at the Golden Manor. As a result of an alarming surge in case numbers and COVID-19 hospitalizations across the province, the Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, is imposing a provincewide emergency brake. On the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, all Ontarians are advised to stay home as much as possible with trips outside the home limited to necessities and restricting gatherings to those within the same household (the people you live with). In response to the provincewide emergency brake and recommendations from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Golden Manor will put in place time-limited safety measures in line with current provincial measures. The enhanced measures will go into effect as of Saturday, April 3, 2021, at 12:01 a.m. and will be reassessed in at least four (4) weeks. Caregivers A maximum of two (2) caregivers may be designated per resident at a time. A maximum of one (1) caregiver per resident may visit at a time. Continue to follow antigen testing algorithm. General Visitors No general visitors are permitted to visit the Home. Resident Absences No short term or temporary resident absences. Absences are only permitted for medical and compassionate reasons and requests for these absences must be submitted to the Home. Those with general visits and absences booked Saturday, April 3, 2021 onward will be called to notify them of the cancellation. Changes may be made based on direction the Home receives from the province or Ministry of Long-Term Care. We will keep you updated as we receive further direction. Courtyard Access With the nice weather we wish for residents and caregivers to be able to access and enjoy the courtyard. To do so safely we ask that residents and caregivers adhere to the following guidelines: Residents must put a mask on before leaving their floor. Residents and caregivers must wear a mask while on route to the courtyard and while in the courtyard. Residents and caregivers must go directly to the courtyard and directly back to their room. Resident and caregivers must maintain physical distancing from others in the courtyard and follow the directional arrows. Please feel free to contact the Golden Manor administration office by calling 705-360-2644 ext. 4500 should you have any questions. Thank you.

The residents of the Golden Manor have many gifts and talents. Joyce Moyle, displayed her incredible poetry, writing a beautiful poem for a wonderful Golden Manor PSW, Alma. ALMA Alma is a work of art. She must have been right from the start.... She gives the greatest hug I must say. She wouldn’t have it any other way. Maybe she likes to sing and dance, But only when she has the chance. She likes to be happy, it’s plain to see. And so she is for you and me. She likes to relax when time permits, But only of course if the shoe fits. Alma is always in a good mood, And no doubt she loves good food.

The Province has introduced a new framework which categorizes public health regions into five levels: The category a region is in determines the restrictions in place. Currently Timmins is in the GREEN PREVENT level. It is important that we all remain vigilant.... - Wear your mask in public places, at work and when visiting - Wash your hands - Use hand sanitizer - Practice physical distancing - Stay home if you are unwell. Staff and visitors continually review policy and instructional hand hygiene and PPE videos to ensure we are properly doing some of the most vital actions to keep everyone safe! Now is not the time to become complacent! We want to remain .. IN THE GREEN! We Got This!

Annual Orange Shirt Day on September 30th, is a day to honour and recognize the victims and survivors of residential schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the impact they have left behind. Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) Residential School (1891-1981) Commemoration Project and Reunion events that took place in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in May 2013. Former student Phyllis (Jack) Webstad told her story of her first day at residential school when her shiny new orange shirt, bought by her grandmother, was taken from her as a six-year old girl. https://www.orangeshirtday.org/phyllis-story.html

Message from Carol Halt, Golden Manor Administrator September 18, 2020 Dear Staff, Family Members and Substitute Decision-Makers:... It feels like we are full swing into Fall, with cooler temperatures, and fewer hours of daylight. I hope that everyone has been able to enjoy some of the sunshine and warmer days. Let’s hope we have more! September 2020 marks 6 months that we have been in a pandemic, an experience that none of us have previously had to endure. I want to thank all of our staff and family members/substitute decision makers for the amazing support we have had these past 6 months. I know that putting the restrictions in place in the Golden Manor when we did, has been very difficult in many ways for everyone, but it was the right thing to do. With your help, we have been able to keep COVID-19 out of our Home. It has been difficult to hear and read about the devastation that some Homes in other parts of the Province and country have endured as they struggled with COVID-19 outbreaks. By now, we have all had to adjust to this new normal. Many of you have had to return to work, and perhaps send children back to school after an extended period spent in the safety of your own homes. This can’t be easy for you. We honestly don’t know when Wave 2 will affect our community, so I ask that everyone continue to do all you can to keep everyone safe at the Golden Manor. We must continue to be vigilante, wear masks in public places, practice good hand hygiene and physical distancing, and stay home if feeling unwell. We have done such a good job to date, and there is no room for complacency. We will continue to practice the highest of infection control standards at the Golden Manor. Our staff continue to be COVID-tested every 2 weeks. I ask that when you are visiting and/or when you take residents out, that you too maintain those standards. We are all in this together, and your continued support is appreciated! Thanks to all of you .. We Got This! Stay safe, everyone! Sincerely, Carol Halt, Administrator
