Today, we are excited to share with you the newest edition of Longrow Red. Available today throughout the UK from your local retailer and in some European count...ries over the coming weeks. Please contact the distributor in your country to find out where you might find it on sale: http://springbank.scot/distributors/ This series all began as a bit of fun and in the interest of experimentation; to explore how the more heavily peated spirit of Longrow would interact with the tannins of the red wine casks. It came to fruition when during a trademark registration it was noted, there was a winery in Australia with a very similar name for one of their brands...'Long Row'. So, we got in touch and the original casks came from there. The marriage between the red wine casks and our smoky, peaty whisky was a success and due to the popularity of the initial release it was decided it should become an annual edition. The Refill Malbec casks used were sourced from the De Toren Vineyard in Stellenbosch, South Africa. We had a relationship with its former owners as they also import and distribute our whiskies in the country. It seems, David, our Director of Sales had a nice time selecting these casks. Here's what he had to say about it; "I spent an evening at the winery sampling their wines over a Braai (S.African BBQ). They use a mixture of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec grapes to produce their signature wines. The big dark fruits and full bodied nature of the Malbec seemed to work well alongside Longrow, and importantly, they had enough available casks to make up a worthwhile bottling run of Longrow Red! Matured in bourbon casks for 7 years then in Refill Malbec casks for 3 more. It is bottled at cask strength and is a limited release of 10,000 bottles. Nose: Aromas of chewy vanilla fudge and butterscotch. A hint of tart, sticky stewed rhubarb and grape juice. Palate: Delicate peat smoke is balanced with notes of red apples and ripe black cherries. Fresh pretzels, vanilla and sugar coated almonds offer buttery, sweet characteristics. A developing earthy hint of tobacco at the end. Finish: The ashy, earthy, buttery characteristics continue. Notes of burnt embers and warm buttered toast.
