So pumped with how these custom @vans turned out in time for @themasters week. And yes, they are what I wear on the course. Why?... Multiple reasons but here are some highlights: vans are typically made with canvas material meaning they stretch easier and do not squeeze your foot into unnatural positions less bulky material and an overall high flexibility rating, leaves me with more ability to feel the ground under my feet with some traction and ultimately create a better swing A stronger and more mobile foot and ankle complex allows for better performance in all athletic endeavours including golf this model in particular still has tread that works on most golf courses they look sick as hell Many blast me for hyping up vans so much for training and for golf - but I’m not wearing anything else. #TrainAthletic #golfHEROIC #golf #golfing #golfer #golflife #instagolf #golffit #golflifestyle #lovegolf #golfstagram #pgatour #golfislife #golfcoach #golftips #functionaltraining #strenthandconditioning #training #fitness #hiit #golfstrong #garagegym #fitnessmotivation #wodoftheday #WOD #bodybuilding #golfperformance #golffitness #beheroic

"You Can't Move Where You Can't Move" To be honest, I don't know exactly who this quote should be attributed to, but @deweynielsen said it during a @functional_range_conditioning seminar. So it stands to reason it could also come from @drandreospina... Either way, if you aren't following those accounts you should.... But this quote stands out as a "Well DUH dumb dumb" But if you think about it, often we ask our bodies to get into complex positions daily - be in in the gym, on the golf course or simply in day to day life. And very few people stop to think "Is my body actually capable of this position?". In most cases, including myself, the answer is no. But your body will always find a way to get the job done - even if it is inefficient and puts us in a potentially peculiar or compromising position (which means poor performance AND potential injury). Incorporating ROM (Range of Motion) training to both increase the range of motion at the JOINT as well as the STRENGTH of within this range is important to incorporate into your daily training routine. This means that YES - passive range of motion is important. But if you do not have STRENGTH within this range, it is equally useless. Case in point, I have taught many yogi's over the years who have incredible ranges of motion, but because they have no control or strength in these ranges, they are equally at risk of injury. This means - as I have been saying for YEARS - that it is important to train both PASSIVE and ACTIVE ranges of motion to get the full bang for your buck (and time). So if you aren't following Golf FLEX (our mobility training program on TrainHeroic) you are likely missing out on some improvements to your mobility - which translates to both higher levels of performance as well as improved overall health. Check it out on our website (link in bio). #TrainAthletic #golfHEROIC #golf #golfing #golfer #golflife #instagolf #golffit #golflifestyle #lovegolf #golfstagram #pgatour #golfislife #golfcoach #golftips #functionaltraining #strenthandconditioning #training #fitness #hiit #golfstrong #garagegym #fitnessmotivation #wodoftheday #WOD #bodybuilding #golfperformance #golffitness #beheroic

Simply re-creating the golf swing in the gym IS NOT going to help your golf game. There is a time and a place to work through rotational drills and positions for your golf swing, ideally with a PGA professional where the focus of that particular session is to reinforce and develop positions for the golf swing. Training in this manor is called SPP, or Specific Physical Preparation (or Sport Specific Training). This is needed and in fact something I encourage all of my athlete...s to do. What most golfers fail to address is what's called GPP, or General Physical Preparedness. This is the foundation to SPP, and is something that needs to be trained weekly 3-5 times per week (for 99% of golfers out there, there can be a case made for certain individuals to have a more periodized approach). Proper training in GPP assists golfers in: Enhancing Mobility so they are able to get into the proper positions IN the golf swing - pain-free Building a base of strength which when combined with speed training (in the right volume) helps produce more POWER in the swing Provides a more balanced approach to overall human movement which aids in injury prevention to hips, low back, elbows and shoulders (or any area that golfers typically find injuries occur) I would even go as far to say that proper GPP and a well planned program, combined with proper execution, can produce a much more stable MENTAL game, which translates to better decisions and overall better standard of play Golfers need to recignize that they need to take a more holistic approach to their training in order to realize a higher quality of play. More time on the range recreating the swing and getting new clubs every year are only going to get you so far. #TrainAthletic #beHEROIC #golf #golfing #golfer #golflife #instagolf #golffit #golflifestyle #lovegolf #golfstagram #pgatour #golfislife #golfcoach #golftips #functionaltraining #strenthandconditioning #training #fitness #hiit #golfstrong #garagegym #fitnessmotivation #wodoftheday #WOD #bodybuilding #golfperformance #golffitness #golfheroic

Golfers on the quest for more POWER It CAN and SHOULD be trained. If you want to hit bombs, there is a specific path that needs to be followed.... And the thing is, it is so much more than "flexibility" and hitting random workouts in the gym. While much more nuanced than a simple instagram post can show, power can be developed with 4 key focuses: MOBILITY - Can your body get into the right positions in the first place. This requires more than doing stretches (which can help increase your passive range of motion) and focuses on building your ACTIVE Range Of Motion that you can actually use on the course STRENGTH - Are you stable in these positions or are you as sturdy as a tent in a hail storm? Building strength means using weights and other means to CHALLENGE your posture and position to the point of struggle (not failure) CONDITIONING - Are you able to last in your training sessions? Are you able to make it a full 18 without blowing up on the 12th hole? Conditioning is important to ensure overall capacity for training, golf and life. SPEED - Once the foundation of MOBILITY, STRENGTH & CONDITIONING is there, you can now integrate speed into the equation. STRENGTH + SPEED = POWER. But without CONDITIONING or MOBILITY as part of the equation, you are building your powerhouse on shaky foundation. #TrainAthletic #golfHEROIC #EmpowerYourGame #golf #golfing #golfer #golflife #instagolf #golffit #golflifestyle #lovegolf #golfstagram #pgatour #golfislife #golfcoach #golftips #functionaltraining #strenthandconditioning #training #fitness #hiit #golfstrong #garagegym #fitnessmotivation #wodoftheday #WOD #bodybuilding #golfperformance #golffitness
