Certifications are important to have for an industry that supplies the foundations for such a variety of structures. At GoliathTech we take these certifications quite seriously and fully abide by them. Unfortunately we do not see the entire industry following suit and it is disappointing for sure. If your pile installer does not have a CCMC report that is the first clue to keep looking. Getting a certification for a product can be tough but disregarding the requirements of th...at certification is far to easy. Engineering is at the core of every project we take on. Simply stating "don't worry our engineer will sign off on it" does not cut it. It is important to know what exactly the engineer is signing off on. If it is simply that the piles reached X capacity, that is not enough. There is much more to it than that. This project shown in the photo failed because the piles were capable of the compression loading however NOT the lateral loading. The piles are too small and too high o...ut of the ground. Often times we quote projects and get laughed at for our larger pile sizing and higher cost. We lose out to companies installing significantly smaller piles that in actuality are not the right piles for the job. Using the wrong smaller pile to save money simply because it meets the compressive loads and is cheaper is simply not acceptable. Remember folks these are your projects with your name on them. Just a friendly reminder that the building code is in place for a reason. It is a requirement to have the pile head connected to the helical pile. Have you ever used helical piles where the heads are wobbling around and can simply lift off of the pile? If so you need to reconsider what you are using. Heads that wobble and lift off with no connection are NOT building code approved. Would you ever build a deck and just rest the post on top of the concrete without a connection... embedded into the concrete? Remember these projects have your name on them.
