I do love Christmas, but truly I’ve always been more over the moon for Halloween. Before kids, I carved pumpkin villages, Halloween Atmosphere game parties and my yard decorations probably out number my Christmas. Lol. Now that the kids are older and hockey is usually in full swing, October seems to disappear in a mighty blur. Partly due to covid slowing our life down, I’m trying to channel my inner Halloween goddess! It’s been hard to get motivated to do anything. I’ve re...ally needed something to inspire me and get me excited. I feel like I’ve just been floating along too long. Now I’m finding myself getting more than a little excited for Halloween. Yay!! I’m pretty sure somethings will be modified, such as trick or treating. And we will deal with that when it comes. But there is sooo much more to Halloween and the month of October than collecting candy. Shocker, I’m actually starting to prep early. I must be excited! Last few years, I usually wing it last minute! I’ve watched a few Halloween Hallmark movies (Hocus Pocus soon, hey, I named my last cat Binx), I’ve been on the hunt for my usual small decorative pumpkin stash. Jack o lanterns are ordered from a local market garden for carving, Brett knows my love for pumpkins. He is usually my go to spotter for pumpkins left on the side of the road. Or hauling around my pile I collect. This fall he finally decided to suggest, next year we try planting our own. After all these years, I think he might have gotten the hint I like pumpkins. Lol. But on the wishlist is to decorate the yard! I’ve found my new costume to wear and finally keep the annual tradition of Halloween Photos at the store! I’m just waiting on one hockey schedule to finalize my dates and times! So get your costumes ready!! Scheduling it will be a bit more planned and spaced out then previous, but this part of our fun annual tradition will stay the same. Maybe this year I will complete my October Daily Keepsake Book! They are more on the pricey side, but literally last MONTHS! And who doesn’t love a pail of eucalyptus? We’ve got gerbs, mums, corn broom, wheat, carns, berries, thistle and more! It's nice to meet you, I'm Kelly Hunter! I have 3 kids-15/13/11. Add a great hubby, who grumbles a lil bit when I say I have an idea. That’s what happened 14yrs ago when I left marketing and began GSIB. Inside a big, beautiful, old general store (1938), you will find my passions rolled into an amazing eclecti...c emporium! These include: my camera, scrapbooking, graphic design, a good book, a great cup of coffee, found vintage treasures, art, music and spa! A lot of products that work their way onto the shelves originate with most of my passions & help you feel good. Growing up, my crafter parents shared their passion with me. My priority is supporting fellow artists. Whether made locally, MB, and beyond! You will find many handmade/small batch items to shop or used in our café. Though I’m missing our workshops, Home Routes/Chemin Chez Nous concerts and other events. One day soon, we will be full steam again. Truthfully, GSIB is more than a physical place. Its a place of inspiration. It’s been my mental health savings grace. Here, I can leave the zoo of our house behind, breathe and dream. As I walk around sipping my coffee or working on the comfy red couch, it reminds me - "this is WHY I took a leap of faith". Yes, It’s been HARD some days. It’s not easy owning a small business, plus never imagining covid. But this is my journey. I would choose this path again. I also the people I meet. If only these old brick walls - pickle barrel stained floors could talk! As a kid, this building always gave me the feeling of HOME & good vibes! With my family, it’s now our rock. Built in 1908, burnt down 1937 and rebuilt 1938. Its stayed an eclectic general store/cornerstone hub for Rossburn. We are keeping the roots growing. Its your turn to enjoy the slower pace as you walk through our front door. Welcome! Stop in and stay a spell! Sip a latte, shop and I love to chat! It’s officially hockey season again. Last night I decided to try a new concoction for my cool evening sitting outside at the hockey rink. I’m normally not much of a pumpkin spice fan as I’m an apple cider girl. But I had an idea. So I mixed up a new tea latte for the road using our Pumpkin Pie rooibos loose tea (available in the gift shop area) and some all natural chai and pumpkin syrups. Of course the extra special treat of whip & pumpkin pie spice for a topper.
