Mental Health Moment - December 2020 How are you connecting your dots? Our approach to BE WELL is Holistic - Mind, Body and Spirit. We need to take the opportunity to connect these three dots to achieve a balance in our overall well being. This month we need to take a moment to be patient. It is the virtue that we focus on for the month of December and an important opportunity to pause. Sometimes by taking just a few extra seconds to be patient by taking a breath, and r...eflecting before we respond or react, the outcome of a situation can be very different. This is true for all of us, with our peers, students, children and colleagues. During the Season of Advent, we can take this opportunity to be patient with others, as we are patiently waiting for the celebration of the Nativity at Christmas. Taking the time to be patient, we can demonstrate this to others around us and to take the opportunity to take in the warmth that this season has to offer. Try these tips to help to develop your patience. Meditate - try a 2 minute meditation Look for the Lesson - explore why you are struggling to wait or what you need to learn in the situation Take a Break - look at this as an opportunity to pause and reflect, shift your thinking about the situation Respond, not react - take the time that you have to wait to plan your response to the situation Acknowledge the effects of impatience - consider whether you have control in the situation and whether you are able to make any change to improve it We have launched a video titled To Light a Candle to celebrate Advent and to provide the opportunity to pause and prepare for this season. Dear PVNC families, Yesterday all families received a link to our Access to Technology Family Survey. As our teachers prepare to reconnect with their students and resume teacher-led learning next week, its important that families fill out the survey so that we can better understand our students access to technology at home.... If you have NOT had an opportunity to complete the survey, were asking families to please complete the survey by Friday, April 3 at 9:00 am. If you have already filled out the survey, thank you. Dear PVNC families, As you have likely heard today, the Ministry of Education announced that Ontario schools will remain closed until May 4, 2020 and has provided Ontario School Boards instruction to resume teacher-led learning next week. Our number one priority is to reconnect our teachers and students so that teacher-led learning can continue. ... We know that some students and families do not have access to technology or reliable internet at home. That is why we want to survey ALL of our families about the access to technology they have at home. Just five hours after Shahnaz gave birth to baby Jessiah, he became the smallest patient to receive a pacemaker in Canada. Despite the many challenges, Both Jessiah and Shahnaz are here today because of the expert care received at Lakeridge Health. Good Shepherd Catholic Elementary School in Courtice has completed its 17th year participating in the Terry Fox National School Run day. Each year the school community sets itself a goal and each year our students, parents and staff come through with such dedication and enthusiasm. This year we collected $7300 in donations for cancer research. We continue to show support for Terry and his dream. To date, our Good Shepherd School community has collected $113,000.00 in donations. We are proud of each and every dollar raised and will continue this legacy till our funds help to support a cure.

We are hosting our 17th Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 27th. Pledges can be made through pledge forms or online at www.terryfox.org Help support our run! Every donation counts!

We need your help! We are in desperate need for volunteers to help support our hot lunch program. If you are able to volunteer for an hour or two during the day please contact the school and let us know. Any help would be appreciated.
