Part of puppy socialization includes taking your puppy to safe places to introduce them to new environments. The goal when going on these field trips is to have your puppy focus on you and remain calm while in a new and distracting environment. Jax got to go on a special adventure to Canadian Tire last week while attending our Puppy School! We're so glad that more and more businesses are allowing dogs inside! Does your dog or puppy have a favourite store they love going to?

Puppies are great at some things. Like being cute, giving puppy kisses, and getting into trouble! But do you know what puppies aren't good at yet? Focusing in distracting places! Puppies are still learning, and trying to practice new skills in a room with other puppies, new people and exciting smells can be very challenging for them. Our Platinum Puppy Class offers the best of both worlds so your puppy can reach their full potential! If you have a reactive dog, our Calm Canines Class is perfect for you. We can help put an end to: Hiding behind parked cars to let dogs or people pass Constantly changing direction to avoid triggers Walking at inconvenient hours to avoid incident... Skipping your dog walks altogether due to the stress Embarrassment when friends and neighbours visit We take a two-path approach: First, we use positive reinforcement operant conditioning techniques to teach your dog to focus on you instead of the things he reacts to. Second, we use positive classical conditioning techniques to systematically teach your dog to feel ho-hum about his reactivity triggers. Register for our class starting on November 11th here: https://www.goodasgoldtraining.ca/reactivity/

You might have heard us using the term reactive dog, but what exactly does that mean? People often assume that reactive dogs are aggressive dogs, but the term reactive is simply a label we use to describe a dog that is outwardly reacting, often by lunging, barking, or snapping, to a trigger. Triggers can include other dogs, small animals, people or wheeled objects to name a few. Our goal is to provide owners with the tools and dogs with the skills to successfully navigate the frustration they are feeling and get a reactive dog to a place where they can behave differently around their triggers.
