Last month we had the honour of producing the first virtual event of the WOKE WO/MEN series, alongside community leaders @carla.beharry and @selamdebs. -- The first virtual event in the series, local organizers and co-founders Selam Debs and Carla Beharry curated a night of speaking, music, DJing, dance & spoken word as a tribute to African and Caribbean culture by amplifying stories of resilience and challenge through storytelling.... [...] While KW has seen change and growth in the past few years, we still have a very long way to go. Things that are acceptable here that would never be acceptable in a place like Toronto, where it is much easier to be immersed in culture, food, music and more, said Beharry. Here, it’s somehow become acceptable to push racialized groups to the edges of the community, to erase people of colour from boards where decisions are being made. Believing that this community deserves much better, Debs and Beharry choose to stay local, invested in giving KW what it needs a wake up call. -- Read more at the link in our bio, including information on how to engage with @antiracism.cc Witten by @racheljhickey Photos by @isaacbender.dp #dtklove #kwawesome

We've always taken pride in hosting our shows in non-traditional venues: museums, grocery stores, hair salons, tech offices, and the list goes on. By partnering with local businesses to bring live music into their space, we're able to create experiences for our musicians, audience, and crew like no other. The show happens for one night only -- a shared moment between musicians, artists, and guests, in a space that now carries a unique memory for everyone in attendance. Even ...virtually. Lock downs and restrictions have hit our partners in the community hard, so we're grateful to be able to broadcast from venues including the @apollocinema in partnership with the @cityofkitchener, with more venues to come soon. Make sure to get out and show your support -- popcorn pickup is happening today! More shows coming soon. Photo by @alexismimacho from @theclubhousephoto #kwawesome #dtklove

Next Sunday we'll be hosting our final Concert in a Box for 2020. We started this series waaaay back in May, deep in the midst of quarantine. It was our way of keeping live music alive; it allowed us to bring folks together virtually (safely) to share a surprise experience like no other. Since then, we've been able to include items in our boxes from dozens of local businesses, supporting our community. We've been able to give artists a platform to perform, even during a pand...emic. And we, as a team, have been able to experiment, learn, and grow with each event. This series has helped to keep our business going by giving us opportunities to pivot and try new things. Our team volunteers to put the Concert in a Box together. This lets us keep the event accessible, so more folks can enjoy the fun from home each time. Our November 15th box will be the best yet -- filled to the brim (literally) with surprise items from local shops that you'll definitely want to get your hands on. We've doubled the number of boxes we're putting out, and we need your help to get them out into the world. Tell a friend. Tell a coworker, and share this with your family. The more the merrier. Boxes are available for sale until next Friday, after which they'll be delivered to your door on the night of the show. We have 100 boxes left. Get yours (and a few for your bubble) before they're gone. Thank you for supporting live music + events as we get creative with how we do things Link in bio. #kwawesome #dtk #dtklove #livemusic #supportlocal #supportsmallbusiness #ingoodcompany
