Looking for something to watch? I highly recommend this documentary. I love materials that help me bring awareness to my pilot-mode behaviours, and this one, is (obviously) about our shopping behaviours and our deceptive subconscious search for happiness through buying stuff... I often think about how to best approach people towards positive change and personally I don’t think it is very efficient to post about the dangers of consumerism around the holidays for example ...because it is much harder to have such watchful behaviours around these times when we are all engulfed by strong traditions around gift exchange + families and friends gathering... but I think it is really important that we are a bit more vigilant the rest of the year... so here is something that will help you consider a more minimalist approach (at least for 9-11 months of the year ). If you get to watch it, I’d love to hear your comments :) #minimalism #minimalist #goodpractices #consumerism #consumerschoice #betterchoicesdaily #truehappiness #lessismore #shopsmart #presenceoverpresents See more

I would like to invite you to meditate on this today: How is your life today and how much time in the past few months did you spend worrying about how your life would be like today? 9.8 out of 10 times our concerns are never as bad as we worry they will be and as for the other 0.2 times it is, we find out just how strong, smart, supported we are... we get up, get over and get better! (Not a real statistic btw) Take it easy on yourself, don’t let tomorrow’s worries take so much of today’s joy. #dontworrybehappy #warriornotworrier #warriornotaworrier #choosehappiness #staypresent #lifeisgood #blessed #blessedandgrateful #blessedmess #goodvibes #goodpractice #betterhabits #meditation #quotes #quotestoliveby

Now you can browse around and shop local from the comfort of your home! With new lockdown restrictions, many are opting to shop the regular giants mostly due to lack of options... only because they don’t know about Not-Amazon! You can find great buys from a variety of local shops in 1 place! I’m so glad to have come across this incredible site and I know where I’m going to be shopping for my holiday gifts! #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocal #supportlocalartists #supporthandmade #smallbusinesssupport #smallbusinesstoronto #smallbusinessmarketing #onlineshopping #conciousliving #conciousconsumer

Hi guys! It has been a while! I needed a break from social media... I’m back now because I have a message I felt the need to share, something I’ve been thinking about for a while... We need to keep the socioeconomic scales balanced as much as possible. There are certain positive aspects of large corporations to the overall health of the economy as long as the scale isn’t tipping over to just that one side... right now we must unite and support small business at every opportunity! There are many things hanging in the balance and as conscious consumers, we have a responsibility to participate in actively building a better tomorrow for all of us! #smallbusiness #healthyeconomy #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocal #supportlocalbusiness #supportlocalartists #supportsmallbusinesses #supporter #conciousconsumer

@soulfeastkatie This woman created a gem in Toronto of community and healing. I learn so much from her and her feminine essence, her calm and grounded presence, her passion for healing and feeding people with love, healthy foods are gifts she shares so generously... thanks Katie This was just a casual visit, we did some art, some gardening, than we all pitched in with making dinner... but she organizes amazing retreats in her lovely home, where you can learn how to cook healthy, delicious dishes, enjoy a variety of healing therapies and just get to meet really kind and special people... I highly recommend. I think many of us need this right now, with all the added stress we’ve been experiencing. #blessed #community #toronto

Connection elevates me, attachment suffocates me. Everything that is present in my life because of a need generated by pain or fear, is attachment. I see attachment as the shadow side of connection, the pain caused by a lack of connection. Whenever I feel painfully attached to something, I only need to look closer, look deeper and I soon find that what is missing is connection. But how to find connection? Most examples and models around us are cases of attachment. In our curr...ent world, many human relationships are created on the basis of attachment (fear). In this model, we can easily become suffocated by our attachment to our jobs, relationships, ideals, we suffocate ourselves and those around us with attachment but once you set habits and practices where you connect with yourself (meditation, journaling, hobbies, daily mindfulness rituals etc) you will soon develop a true compass, a guiding tool to gauge your level of connectedness to people, to activities, to ideals. Remember, attachment will have you "pretending to be someone you are not, even have you believe on ideals you don’t really believe in because it is based on a NEED to be accepted by others above all else. I invite you to observe the situations and the people you feel most yourself, where you are your most authentic person, because there you will find where connection is for you. What you seek is seeking you, if you seek connection, connection will seek you. Happy Friday everyone! #awareness #selfawarenessjourney #trueself #trueselfchallenge #attachment #connection #findingmyself #meditation #journaling #observer #selfobservation #happiness #goodpractices See more

#tbt to this useful post Summer time is great but mosquito bites are not... making your own insect repellent is a great way to #reduceplasticwaste and also to avoid harsh chemicals from being absorbed into your body. Here is how you do it. 1. Add 30 drops of geranium and citronella essential oils (each), 20 drops of lemon eucalyptus and lavender essential oils (each) and 10 drops of rosemary essential oil to 1 TBSP of rubbing alcohol (or vodka) into a spray bottle (glass or... aluminum preferably) and shake well. 2. Pour in 1/2 cup of natural witch hazel and shake well. 3. Add 1/2 of vinegar (or water) and shake again. Shake before each use. Et voila! You got a very natural and very effective insect repellent that will not keep from enjoying the outdoors! We have the perfect size aluminum spray bottle on our little shop! Check out the link on our bio :) #ecotips #goodpractices #plasticfree #zerowasteliving #plasticfreejuly2019

Posted @withregram @raisingthemartins I’m just going to leave this here. Repost from @evolvedteacher How do I raise my child to be an ally? How do I raise my child to be inclusive, to actually see color and differences and challenge their own biases? These are beautiful questions that conscious parents and educators ask because we want to raise changemakers. We want to empower children who will add to the beauty in this world. These are things that you can do, but that... people often don't consider, unless they have to. Remember, inclusivity must be lived and actively practiced.

Check out @blackowned.to #blackownedto - if you know of other initiatives to showcase a variety of minority owned businesses in Toronto, please tag us (Native Canadians, Ethnic Minorities etc) (Reposted) When this year started one of my biggest goals was to support more black owned businesses. And it was surprisingly difficult to find/tell what businesses in the city are TRULY black owned. So I created this platform in hopes to discover more black owned businesses and share them with you guys! I wanted a space for us to support one another and buy from one another. All Toronto based! If you have a business or know someone who does, please DM me for a feature! Coming Soon!

One way we are creating DIVIDE within our human interactions is by assuming to know another person's experience and then (consciously or subconsciously) disregarding what they actually share of their experience as an "exaggeration" or something along those lines... I see this all the time, from the closest interactions (like between family members or partners) to a larger groups "separated" social/economically, culturally, racially or by gender and sexual orientation... Your ...experience is relevant to the whole, but so is the experience of the person next to you . Working out solutions isn't always easy, but it helps if we just accepted the fact that we are all having different experiences all the time! I read this today and it struck me deeply: "IMPACT over INTENTION". My take from this is that having the INTENTION to help, is trying to help someone based mostly on your personal experience/ feelings about someone else’s experience therefore, what you might say or do might not be helping at all or could even be making things worse (and that would get you offended/ angry)!! But when your focus is on making a positive IMPACT on another person's life, the tendency is to observe more, ask more, listen more, sympathize, and act accordingly. It is time we all try shifting to this IMPACT mindset... with the people in our family, our friends; with members of your community and/or outside of your community. Let’s also demand more IMPACT over INTENTIONS from our politicians, leaders and those in decision making positions. #mindsetshift #impact #intention #healing #collectiveconsciousness #socialjustice #positiveimpact See more

Just like many, my heart aches and my blood boils with the too many cases of brutality against black people. It is especially aggravating when these crimes are committed by those who are meant to serve and protect all citizens. Despite still having a long way to go until we can right all wrongs and live in a just society, we must start now. For donations, there are several organizations that came up in my search/ timeline, I don’t know them personally and cannot attest to the...ir results, but please feel free to include them in you research for your donation consideration: Know Your Rights Camp, Fair Fight, Black Vision Collective, Black Lives Matter (for more, do a search under #blacklivesmatter #blacklivesmatterdonations). Take some time to also reflect on those nasty socially acceptable forms of racism, like racial profiling, hiring discrimination, housing discrimination, fearing people of color, racist jokes, assuming higher intellect/ skills in white people than in poc, undervaluing opinions/ experiences of POC etc... it is time to take a good look inside ourselves and address any form of racism instilled in us, individually and collectively. Let’s evolve and work to eradicate racism from all future generations. #endracism #selfreflection #respect #endracialprofiling #endracialinjustice #endracialdiscrimination See more

It might seems obvious, but next time you feel like your self-esteem is low, instead of trying to address an external problem (by buying clothes, make up, etc) think about the internal causes of your low self-esteem: Find a handful of things to be proud of - visible and invisible. Stop and think who are you comparing yourself with... it probably isn’t even a realistic comparison (touched up photos, illusion of happiness, etc) You are who you are, real, flawed and fabulous, just like all the rest of us! Accept and love yourself, exactly the way you are and care less about fearing rejection from others. Set yourself free! #selflove #selfcare #selfawareness #selfesteem #seeyourvalue #betterhabits #betterhabits4betterlife #conciousconsumer #fixitontheinside

When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you hear all those negative thoughts driven by years of marketing strategies and colonialism intended to make you feel ugly or somehow inadequate and ready to spend lots of money in products and solutions to attain a look that never even represented true beauty? This destructive thought pattern is not only destroying your self-esteem, it is destroying your finances, your ability to take charge of your life, holding you back and help...ing destroy our ecosystems too (pollution, unsustainable resources extraction, etc)... but the power is still yours, it always has been. And so, remember, when you look at yourself in the mirror and admire what you see, you are helping create a better world not only for yourself, but for everyone too. Self-care is awesome, but only when not obsessive and driven by self-hate. #sustainable #selfesteem #truebeauty #selfcare #selflove #beautymindset #beautyinallshades #beautyinallages #beautyinallshapes See more

A beautiful message to all mamas out there! Thank you for all the love, support, for helping us grow and navigate this beautiful journey called life Posted @withregram @blessthemessy To any woman who has poured out maternal love for someone or something in need; child, student, co worker, niece, nephew, dog, or cat. To any woman who has stood in the place of a mother and made space for someone who needed it. To anyone who has lost their mother physically or emotionally. To ...any mamas who have lost a child and carry an unbearable pain. To the moms who go to work each day and try to balance it all. To the moms who stay home each day and try to balance it all. To the step moms and bonus moms who choose to love and protect our kids as their very own. To all women who love deeply, and tirelessly give themselves to people, and show up for people in need. Thank you. Our community, schools, work spaces, homes, and hearts are all safer and stronger because of you. Happy Mother’s Day. See more

A few days ago I made some purchases that I should not have made... I was bored and I wanted to feel excited and those Facebook/ Instagram ads lured me in to a fake idea of beauty, fun and excitement... once the rush was over, I was left with guilt for spending money that I don’t really have, on totally unnecessary things, that also contributes to unnecessary waste and carbon emissions... I had been really good with sticking to my budget and this feels like a set back.. so I ...decided to take control again and click the hide button on all ads I see... I don’t need the temptation at the moment and doing this gives me the positive feeling that I’m steering myself into the right direction again.
