At the Beginning of Covid last year, I really latched onto my creature comfort: reading! I initially fantasized that the covid reading pile would be taller than me (hence my look of disappointment). But it’s still been a great year of reading and it’s been my primary mode of therapy through everything. Imagination can apparently be weighed and it’s heavy. I like that art takes up a lot of space in my life (physical and mental) and that my shelves are overcrowded, my pockets a...re heavy, my hands are full, my kitchen and bedside tables are cluttered. It’s in the way and that’s just the way I like it! Here’s what I read: Cormac McCarthy: The road Blood meridian William Faulkner: As I Lay Dying Light in August Colson Whitehead: Underground Railroad Nickel boys Ursula K. Leguin: Left hand of darkness Wizard of earthsea Elmore Leonard: Out of sight Riding the rap Pronto Get shorty Tishimingo Blues Brandon Sanderson: Words of radiance Way of kings Edge dancer Oathbringer Stephen king: Different seasons On writing Salem’s Lot the Stand the shining 11/22/63 The vanishing half - Britt Bennett How to lose everything - Christa Couture Indian Horse - Richard Wagamese Kiss of the Fur Queen - Thompson Highway The invisible Man - Ralph Ellison Midnight’s children- Salman Rushdie Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver Normal people - Sally Rooney Catch 22- Joseph Heller Neuromancer - William Gibson

Aaraon Comeau is my favourite musician. I have always loved working with him and whenever I write something, I’m always most excited to show him. He thinks about music in a totally different way and it always produces something unique. This is a great video that shows how his process is influenced by collaborating with painter Stefan Berg. These two were once the kings of lower Dawes road before condo companies swooped in and usurped the cool. Lower Dawes is certainly a humbl...e corner of Toronto, but it was a kingdom none the less damnit! Between Aaron’s Trailer Studio at the old silver mill and Stefan’s studio above Gil’s Auto Collision, there was always something being made. That energy was somehow as tactile and comforting as a warm blanket and was as exciting as fireworks. Watch ‘em pop and glow folks! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t904rA3uFg8&t=340s

Getting ready to play my first gig since March! Really looking forward to playing at @thesecondwedge brewery in Uxbridge this Sunday October 4th. 3-5 pm in the beer garden patio! Outdoor? Check! Plexiglass? Check! Socially distanced tables? Check! They’ve thought of everything. And I can’t wait to sing again! #quarantunes #singersongwriter #livemusic #torontomusic #craftbeer #ontariomusic #folkmusic

A tree grows in Brooklyn. A tree grows in Minneapolis. A tree grows in Atlanta. A tree grows in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Halifax. All these trees were planted long ago in salted and blood stained earth. And yes, despite that, they have still managed to grow and blossom out into all of the beautiful communities that we have seen come together in these horrible times. But without atonement and change, these trees will render nothing but strange fruit with poison at its ...Continue reading

I love Nova Scotia. This is my way of having a piece of it at home. It’s a tide clock for the Bay of Fundy. It provides a little down east rhythm to my Toronto home. It feels like a little portal in my apartment that leads to The Annapolis Valley. What happened last week was awful, unfair and traumatic. It was unfeeling, inhumane, and un-Nova Scotian. I wish I could be with some east coast friends now. But In the stead of good friends I feel thankful to have this silly knick knack on my wall, because now my heart always takes its cue from the tidal rhythms of Nova Scotia.
