The Boundary doesn’t have much but that is the way many local folks like it. Not having much means a small population, a bit of infrastructure, and a whole lot of value in our natural resources. Wilderness is one of our natural resources that is highly valued and supportive of our wildlife, our timber industry, hunting, and the intrinsic value of what wilderness is. A place to go where you can guarantee solitude and be free of any other human influences. The Granby Provinc...ial Park is one of the best parks in BC because of the wilderness factor. The timber values adjacent to Granby Provincial Park are important but it was well known these areas were critical for Grizzly Bears so the government created a non motorized access management area to reduce the impacts of human activity. Now there is a possibility that some of that wilderness will be taken away. There is a proposal from Powder Renegade to develop a Cat Skiing Operation on the west side of Granby Provincial Park, a Commercial Tenure of 8,847 ha. We have concerns about impacts to grizzly bears and other wildlife like mountain goats. One of our biggest concerns is the loss of wilderness to our communities in the Boundary with no benefits or return; and the compounding cumulative effects and what impact that will have on our other resource users. We have asked a Biologist to review the application for us and to evaluate potential impacts to the threatened Kettle Granby Grizzly Bear Population. We hope to have the report out at the start of the New Year. In the mean time. Information of the application can be found here with their management plan https://comment.nrs.gov.bc.ca/applications. The deadline for public comment is January 14th. You can submit comments directly to Sharon Dailey, Land Officer, FrontCounter BC, (250) 426-1753, [email protected]. Please mention that this is related to Crown Land File: 4406147, 4406148 and 4406149.

Nature's timing is amazing. Roses started blooming 2 days ago, high water is over... and now the cottonwood seed is blowing in the wind looking for those perfect wetted spots from high water to settle in and grow!!
