Covid-19 & Services As things are changing rapidly and cases appear to be increasing, I think it's important to remain in communication and inform the families we support of the circumstances in which we face. I want to start by giving a huge appreciation for the providers that are trying their best to continue service with little disruption as possible, but also to the families who are working tirelessly to ensure a safe workspace and uphold their child's pathway to learning.... As we each enter homes and provide a very important service to our clients, we stress the urgency for practising social distancing and self-isolation outside of work hours. While ABA and our clients are the highest priority, the most important service we endorse is ensuring the safety of our clients (including the family as a whole) and their wellbeing. While I can't speak with certainty, I do believe many things, including schools and public areas will be placed on hold for a longer extension than originally planned. With this in mind, proper service planning has been developed and a shift from in-home service has gradually begun. While these changes are temporary, I want to encourage that all families and our service providers continue to practice ongoing safety and preventative measures to slow the spread of Covid-19. As previously mentioned, with the exponential numbers of the virus increasing, it is likely that service will be placed on hold for many families. A pause in service does not discontinue the future of service, nor does it mean you will lose the therapists that support your child. It simply means that we are aware of the severity of the situation and that we are supporting our country and nation to secure the safety of all that are and could be effected. New developments will be offered to counteract the gap in ABA services; video-conferencing for parent training will be provided to families and their child through a secure network portal. While this is a change from the current platform of service, it will provide parents the expertise they need to maintain and teach ongoing skills to their child. Please do not hesitate to email or call if you have any questions or inquiries. Updates will be coming soon for video-conferencing options (www.grandriverautismservices.com)
