Samarah is a health and fitness enthusiast and hopes to one day pursue a master’s degree in the health care industry! Allisson is passionate about self development and leadership and loves different creative outlets such as crafting, acting and music! She is always sipping tea, matcha being her personal favourite! The HEARTS for Haiti run is an annual fundraising event that occurs every October! It is a 5km run, walk, or cycle with the goal of raising money to help schools in Haiti feed and educate their students! Last year, the Fergus event was the BIGGEST fundraiser, raising $9,700 contributing to the overall goal of $55,000! The money raised will not only help the students at these schools get the proper classroom supplies, but also provide them with scholarship opportunities an...d food programs to feed students 2-3 meals per week! Grand River Physiotherapy has been a proud sponsor of this wonderful event for 15 years and we are so happy to see the community come together each year for such a great cause! This year’s event will be held virtually from October 16-26 and you can run/walk/cycle one of the mapped out routes or create your own! We hope you will join us for this great event Registration and fundraising info can be found at standrewsfergus.org

Not sure what a physio appointment looks like? Here’s a little snippet into what you can expect! For your first initial consult: We will take the time to discuss the issue at hand, look at any records or tests from hospitals/doctors, assess the injury and proceed to do your first appointment which can consist of a variety of techniques depending on the diagnosis (approx. 1 hour)... Second and beyond: Together we will decide on how many appointments are needed thereafter. We’ll perform different techniques based on your needs, such as manual therapy, acupuncture or electrotherapy. And, if required we’d prescribe you take home exercises to be performed before your following session (approx. 20 minutes). Our sessions continue until we see significant progression and improvements! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out - we're here to help #physiotherapist #physiotherapy #physio #consultation #health #wellness #exercise #centrewellington

A few weeks ago, Robert, one of Mark’s patients participated in the annual Walk the Block for Parkinson’s in an effort to raise money to help find a cure for Parkinson’s disease! Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative neurological disease that affects a person’s motor and non-motor functioning. With the loss of the chemical dopamine in the brain, the communication between your muscles and your brain is impacted leading to slower, stiffer muscular movements and tremors,... among other things! Together, Mark and Robert have been working on improving balance, core strength, and releasing tight muscles to improve his motor function! Robert continues to be passionate community member who is dedicated to helping find a cure for Parkinson’s and we are so happy to help support such a great cause! If you want to learn more about Parkinson’s disease and how you can get involved in next year’s event with Robert, visit the Parkinson’s Society website!

Remember our baseball pitcher from a few weeks ago with the elbow injury? Good news...he is back to pitching at his elite pre-injury level! We are so proud with how far he has come in just a few short months with all of the hard work that he has put in both at the clinic and at home/practice! Starting from the ground up, we not only worked on his elbow but also his lower body, core, and shoulder. By focusing on these other areas in addition to the elbow, Noah was able to r...ecover faster and realize that using his legs, core, and scapular muscles when he pitched made him a more efficient pitcher! We are so glad that he has been able to rejoin his team and get back to his intense 5-6 days per week training schedule! Keep up the great work Noah! If you have an injury that is keeping you from doing what you love, give us a call to schedule an assessment with one of our registered physiotherapists!

Did you know physiotherapy can help with arthritis? Arthritis is the most common type of joint disease, happening in any joint of the body, but mainly in our hands, knees, hips and spine. 80% of people with arthritis are over the age of 55; Women are 2-3x more likely to develop arthritis; Obesity can impact it; And jobs that require putting weight on joints are at higher risks... As a physiotherapist, we aim to help patients with arthritis to improve their quality of life by: lessening pain, improving range of motion and mobility, reducing swelling and preventing fractures and further injuries. If you or someone you know is dealing with arthritis, reach out and we’d be more than happy to help in your journey of healing!

Low back pain is never enjoyable, and although the pain may feel severe to you, most low back pain is not a serious issue. Most of the time we can assess, diagnose and intervene without the use of diagnostic imaging, allowing you to get treatment and help faster - because the earlier we help, the quicker you can get back to full activity! Some of the ways we can help are through manual therapy and assigning movement and strength exercises.... Before starting to manage any low back pain on your own, please contact one of our regular physiotherapists to book an assessment! How to prevent falls and stay healthy!

Grand River Physiotherapy 30.05.2020

Our next highlight for National Physiotherapy Month is our pelvic floor physiotherapist, Stacy Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help with many conditions, such as urinary and fecal incontinence, urinary frequency and urgency, pelvic organ prolapse, pain with intercourse as well as pregnancy, birth and recovery postpartum! Our pelvic health is more than just the pelvic floor and kegels; it’s a combination of 4 different muscles in our body pelvic floor, diaphragm, transverse... abdominis and multifidus - all working together to support our optimal health. I love being a physiotherapist because to me, it's all about the people. From hearing their story and what brings them to physio and then using my knowledge and skills, and a healthy dash of life experience, I develop a care plan WITH the patient so they can achieve their goals toward improved health and well-being. When I’m not in the office helping patients, you can find me hiking with my red lab, Jethro or with anyone else who will join me like my husband, kids or friends. I enjoy hiking outside the city in beautiful wooded areas near water! #physiocanhelp #strongertogether #physiotherapy #opa #centerwellington #fergusphysiotherapy #virtualphysio #NPM #covid19 #covid-19 #coronavirus

As national physiotherapy month continues we would send a big shout out to our awesome Physio Tyler!! Here is what he has to say....!! First off, myself and GRP would like to thank all of the front line workers who have been doing an amazing job during this difficult time, many of whom are colleagues and friends. Thank you so much Over the last few months I have been spending the majority of my time entertaining my 5 month old son and spending time with my wife. Our little ...guy has definately kept us occupied and has made this quarantine much more entertaining. I know that many of us are not as active as usual and you may be finding that your legs are feeling a bit more tight from all that sitting. Try some of these stretches out (some are alternatives/progressions of the same stretch) to help keep you moving and decrease some lower extremity tension. Hold for 30s and perform 3 repetitions on each leg, repeat 3x a day. Looking forward to seeing everyone in the clinic again soon! If you would like to be on the first-to-call-list for when we re-open please call or email the clinic and we will put you on the list!! 519-787-2714 or [email protected]
