Grand Forks Skating Club 28.11.2020

With much appreciation, the club has had 2 people step up to take a position on the board to keep this club in operation. We still need a couple more people to make this a go. Please, if you have children in skating, and can contribute in any way, contact the board so that skating can continue in Grand Forks.

The Grand Forks Skating Club will be having the AGM in the near future. Most of the current board will be stepping down (as most of us do not have children in the program & are also very busy volunteers in other community groups). If you would like to see skating continue in Grand Forks, we need parents who have children in the program to step up and take over. If you can contribute your time on behalf of the young skaters, please send Vice President Tinaya Jorgenson a message to let her know you are willing to chip in to keep the club active. If we do not have parents step up, it is un-likely that this program will continue next year.

Welcome to the 2020 spring session of skating! The Grand Forks Skating Club would like announce, that after much anticipation, we have been successful in hiring a coach to finish out our skating year. We are very pleased to let you know that Diana Tubrett has joined the coaching staff and will be leading the skaters for the rest of this season. Diana is a very experienced figure skater and skating coach, with many years coaching students, putting on elaborate skate shows, ta...king skaters to competitions and much more. Diana grew up training in Grand Forks and during the summer months, she travelled to Spokane, Vancouver, Victoria and Manitoba for intensive instruction. She attended her first competition at age four. Diana went on to earn quadruple gold tests (which are the highest levels a skater can achieve in dance, free-skate, figures and artistic). She is a level 2 NCCP coach. After graduating high school, Diana toured the world with the Ice Capades. She has also skated with the senior synchronised skating team Edmonton Ice Elite and placed 6th at the Canadians in 1998/99! Diana has coached on and off for over 20 years, while taking breaks to raise her family of four children. We are super lucky to have her expertise on the ice and are very excited to have her teach your children this spring. We are very thankful for the hard work that our autumn session coach Rachel Sterlind has provided to the skaters this fall and look forward to working with her again, once she has renewed her coaching course. Rachel has done an absolutely amazing job of supporting our club through the last year. Aside from helping the kids learn to skate, she has tirelessly collected and sorted bottles on her own limited free time. Rachel has two young children and another job, aside from her employment as a skating coach, yet somehow she managed to raise $3100 to keep costs down for the Grand Forks Skating Club’s skaters!!! Thanks to her hard work, we were able to offer such a sweet deal to the skaters this year. We were also honoured to have her volunteer her time as a member of the club’s board of directors. Rachel has dug in whenever and wherever needed and is one of the hardest working women we know! We are all very excited to meet her new baby (which should arrive shortly) and hope that she will enjoy her time at home as she takes some time off to spend with her family. Thank you for all you’ve done Rachel and we can’t wait to see what you accomplish in the future! Please note that our first day back on the ice will be Jan 13. Lil, at the rec office can take payment starting this week, or you can bring your registration paperwork, along with full payment (or 3 post-dated checks if you want to break up your payments), to your first day of skating. We look forward to seeing you back on the ice! We will have someone from the club’s management team at the arena on Mon. Jan 13 and Wed. Jan. 15th to help register members. Sincerely, The Grand Forks Skating Club.
