Here is the latest Pastoral Letter from Archbishop Pettipas. In it His Grace reflects briefly on both the current COVID-19 Pandemic, as well he speaks about a ...couple of ongoing projects in the Archdiocese. In particular, His Grace speaks about the formation of a new Archdiocesan Workshop [dealing with legal and sexual allegations], as well he reveals the preliminary details about the upcoming Year of St. Joseph in our Archdiocese [March 19, 2021-March 19, 2022]. This year of St. Joseph is being called following the Holy Father’s declaration of a year of St. Joseph in December [Dec 8]. -Covid19 has encapsulated the attention of society, in such a way that it has begun to consume all our interests. In many ways this may seem like grounds for despair, like both WWII and the Great Depression before, nevertheless despite these sufferings there is always hope for the future. It is for this reason we must take this pandemic in stride, as we continue to learn to live and love simply. This can only be done if we willingly surrender our lives to Christ, who is our sure help and refuge.

Here's an encore broadcast of this morning's Mass on the World Day for Consecrated Life in its entirety (Feb 2, 2021 at 10:30am) from the Catholic Campus. Renew...al of commitment After the homily - Bishop: We have gathered here to celebrate the Presentation of Jesus in the temple and also to honor and pray for Consecrated life in the world and especially here in our Archdiocese In the light of Christ here present and before all the people, please renew your commitment to your Congregations and to the mission of the Archdiocese of Edmonton. Your response is 'I do" I ask, do you promise to continue to live in evangelical poverty for the sake of the poor in the world today? Response; I do. Do you promise to continue to live in chastity, loving those with whom you meet in person, see on the news, hear about in the papers, with the love of Christ? R/ Do you promise to continue to live in obedience to Christ, following the gospel in all that you are, living as Jesus, the Word made flesh for the sake of the world? R/ Do you promise to reach out to the world, to the poor in our world and to young people, encouraging them through your presence, your words and your prayers, to answer God's call of service through Religious life, priesthood and Christian marriage? R/ Prayer: We pray that this celebration will encourage and support all in Religious Life at this time and make a stronger and stronger sign to the world of the love of God for all people. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. Intercessions: We pray for the church; that, inspired by the Holy Spirit with wisdom and knowledge, she may follow the example of Simeon and Anna in making Jesus known to the world. We pray to the Lord! Christ Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd, protect and enlighten Pope Francis, archbishop Smith and all the priests around the world that they may continue to lead your flock with gentleness, understanding, and mercy. We pray to the Lord! For those who are called to the consecrated life, may they be faithful witnesses of God’s love. May others be inspired to live their baptismal commitment by professing the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. We pray to the Lord! We pray for all those who are discerning their vocation in life, particularly those whom the Lord is calling to consecrated life, to the priesthood, marriage life or single life. May they be given the wisdom to hear God's call and the courage to respond and persevere generously. We pray to the Lord! For strengthening of all vocations, that we may all strive to follow God’s call to holiness; especially for an increase of all vocations in our archdiocese on this eve of World day for consecrated life. We pray to the Lord! For all who actively support the promotion of vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life, that they may see the fruit of their efforts in a rich harvest of vocations. We pray to the Lord We pray for the elderly and sick sisters, priests, brothers who are unable to join us this evening. May their suffering be united with the suffering Christ and be a reflection of light and life to others. We pray to the Lord! We pray for the sisters, priests, brothers who have died dedicating their lives and service in this archdiocese. May Jesus welcome them into His heavenly home. We pray to the Lord!

How can you tell if you're praying the right way? In this Vlog I use the world of Lumberjack games to illustrate the fact that our prayer, on order to be real, ...needs to be fruitful. Lumberjack games are there so Lumberjacks can stay sharp in while working, likewise our prayer life needs to be pushed in order for us to see real progress in our Christian life. See more
