Some more photos of our week together at Grand Sparks 2017!
Final day at Grand Sparks and we are proud of what we have accomplished together this week! Building an active outdoor relationship with your grandkids, and creating memories to last a lifetime. Today, we climbed the tower. Impressive to see so many grandparents taking the challenge, with all the kids cheering from below. Today's fruit of the day: lemon! It can change a dish into something magical...like the fish in foil we baked in the grill today. The veggie of the day is... cabbage! We had red and green cabbage in our rainbow salad. Thanks again to Healthy Kids Community Challenge Huron for supporting our program. And Edge of Walton Challenge Course for hosting another amazing week of fun!
Today, we braved the rain, struggled to climb slippery trees, and battled mosquitoes. In the end we all shared a laugh. These are the good times. Lunch today was grilled kabobs! Veggie of the day: peppers! Fruit of the day: banana! Thanks Healthy Kids Community Challenge Huron Looking forward to the big climb tomorrow! Rain or shine, we will have some fun today! Come dressed for the weather.
Creating memories that will last a lifetime! Today, three of the grandkids learned how to bike WITHOUT TRAINING WHEELS! Then we all took a quick ride on a section of the G2G Rail Trail guided by Chris Lee. Biking can really work up an appetite, and the campfire nachos were eaten up pretty fast. Today's fruit: cantaloupe! Today's vegetable: okra! A staple of Deep South cuisine, simply dressed with oil, salt, and roasted on an open flame. One creative grandkid said, "they look like lizard heads!" Surprisingly, this caused the other grandkids to eat MORE okra! Thanks again Edge of Walton Challenge Course and Healthy Kids Community Challenge Huron
Perfect day for a paddle in the pond! Spotted some turtles, giant frogs, and even a beaver! Thanks to Dwain Forrest of Timber's Outfitters for keeping us safe on the water. Lunch was fajitas, grilled pineapple, and edemame! If you're unfamiliar with this veggie, they are very fun to eat! Little beans in a pod, much like a snap pea. Our edemame was boiled in salt water and served cold. Thanks again Healthy Kids Community Challenge Huron and Edge of Walton Challenge Course
Our first day of Grand Sparks 2017 was a success! After a fun morning exploring the Edge of Walton Challenge Course we prepared a delicious and nutritious lunch together. Grandparents taught us the best ways to cube a watermelon, the easiest way to hull strawberries, and the best tricks for making perfect tomato slices! Thanks to some funding from Healthy Kids Community Challenge Huron we are promoting the value of fruits and veggies! Today's fruit of the day is Watermelon, and veggie of the day is tomato (although botanically speaking it's actually a fruit!)
